Access the manufacturer's web-site: http://support.hp.com
Enter 'C4280' and do the search.
Click "Get Started" or "Product Information"
to find the correct ink-cartridges.

This may sound too simple, but check the bottom of the cartridges too be sure no tape remains. It happens to everyone at least once.

You must install the official HP solutions centre software that is an add-on with the full driver from the HP website. within the settings on the solution centre there is a "printer toolbox". That allows you to check. Damn annoying you have to install this other software just to check.
It can only check official HP cartridges aswell.

The simple solution is to buy the HP cartridges. Often times,.. MOST times, aftermarket ink cartridges and refill kits are an inferior product. The difference is not always noticeable right away, but almost always rears it's head in the end. This is usually due to the ink being of a different viscosity than the original ink. Which leads to sloppy prints, sensor errors, leaky or dead jets.
Personally I recommend everyone buy Laser printers. With prices where they are these days, there is no reason for anyone to buy an inkjet printer. Lasers will cost more up front, but are much cheaper per page and generally longer lasting.

It appears your printheads are broken. Contact HP to verify.
