The owner's manual should cover that, and if you don't have yours, you can download it here:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/CMV1100AAB.pdf

If it doesn't cover it, you may have to contact Whirlpool for the installation instructions: http://maytag.com/support/contact_us.jsp

I would like to know whether the factory blower orientation for MMV4205AA had changed since 2000. Was it changed from top vent to circulating (into the room)? If it did, when did this change...

Here are the instructions for re-orentation of the blower.

The unit is shipped in the room vent configuration. The blower is re-orented for a wall vent.

Is there a piece I can install on the bottom of my over-the-range microwave that will help keep the front of the microwave from being covered in steam when cooking on my stovetop?

Every over the range microwave has a vent on it that should be venting that steam. I don't know of anything you could put under there that would solve your problem as that is where then vents are and they would be blocked. It sounds to me as though your steam is not being vented properly, and this could also happen if the steam is being vented back into the room instead of outside as many OTR microwaves allow you to do. Its a little bit of work to vent it outside but I myself did that with my microwave and have never had a steam accumulation problem.

Why double filter on Maytag Microwave

If your range hood or microwave recirculates back in to the room.

Both filters are required. The mesh filter catches the grease & air particulate. The carbon filter should be changed regularly www.HoodFilterFactory.com ( avoid range fires that spread quickly) & clears the recirculated air from smoke, odors, & airborne particulate.

With yours venting to the outside, you ONLY need the mesh filter. These filters should be cleaned regularly ( Avoid mentioned hazard) & should be replaced when you can no longer clean them enough to see through them when holding up to the light.

Good Luck

Samsung SMV blower installation

Most Microwaves arrive ready to vent back into the room. For filtered air returned to the room it should face toward the front. For top vent, point to the top. for rear wall vent point toward the back.

I dont have a vent for above range microwave oven

It doesn't have to vent outside. These are designed to recirculate the filtered air back into the room. If you cook without a range hood now it will work fine for you.

Exhaust fan

The fan pulls from the range top and either out those vents on top unless there is a vent in your upper cupboard. Then it is vented outside. Hope this helps.
