What operating system came preinstalled on the laptop first? Depending on if you installed a new operating system could help remedy this problem. I'd first check operating system, for windows vista preinstalled os laptops, theirs a special kind of HD compliant audio driver thats needed and only operates under vista 32 or vista 64bit mode. And it dosnt support windows xp. If its xp, check for drivers. Another common issue would be to check and make sure you have any drivers installed, and IF you do have drivers installed check to make sure your audio card itself (isnt fried/damaged). Assuming it is, you may halfta get a replacement part for your pc (assuming worst comes to worst of course). But in most of my audio issues it was a driver/operating system support problem.
