Error 02 - 574

Main code 2X : Mechanism control system error
574 Failed to detect the T reel FG during search.

This means the take up reel stopped rotating during forward search. It shut down assuming tape was spooling loose into mechanism. Could be just a faulty cassette tape. A common problem is also when labels have been placed in the wrong places on the cassettes, stopping the lid from opening fully and stopping the reel reaching the reel motor drive.Manually eject the tape and try another tape. If the fault continues, have a look for something in the way under the cassette such as post it notes, paper clips, torn labels etc.
Have you had the unit serviced since you got it?
Could be time to get it to a service centre for help.

Working with sony pvw-2800 getting an error code 02 with ff and play. what is this error?

error 02 is "slack or breaking of tape is detected in search, fast forward, or rewind mode". usually caused by problems in the reel motor assemblies themselves.

Tape stuck in sony uvw-1800

02-874 error code signifies a defective takeup reel. The reel is not winding the tape in, so the deck won't go through the eject procedure. Check the connection to the takeup reel motor; if that's OK, the motor itself may be bad. Rarely, the takeup reel motor assembly will need to be replaced; usually it's a connection problem.

UVW-1800 SONY VTR - s-reel error

Both these error codes indicate a problem with the supply reel motor.
The first code (02-058) indicates that the reel motor is drawing too much current, which could be caused by a bad motor, defective driver circuit, or even a bad tape. The second code (02-803) indicates tape slack, caused by the defective supply reel motor. FIRST thing to check would be a possible bad tape. Try different tapes and see if the problem persists. If it does, it may be time to find a technician.

Sony DSR 45P error code C3125

Press the power butten several times while holding down the eject button. It will solve your problem and clear the error. If it not then there is something wrong with your reel motor or the circuitery which deals the reel motor. You must consult your nearby sony service center.

Some tapes will start and immediately shut down

the vcr is on threshold of belt life. try replacing (or cleaning with alcohol) the take-up reel belt. The vcr has a built-in time-out feature to protect the video tape. if it takes too long for things to happen, shut-down occurs.

VCR eats tape when rewinding

A couple of possibilities: 1. Braking problems: When VCR goes from FFWD, REW, Play to stop, there are a pair of "brake pads" engaged to stop the reels, and prevent tape spillage out into the machine. These pads, often rubber like, are on levers which contact one side of each reel. If you take the cover off the VCR, and look down where the tape is loaded, you will like see these brake assemblies. If the rubber pad is missing, or lever pivot points gummied up, then this is your issue. 2. Take up reel isn't being engaged to take up the tape on tape eject. When a tape is loaded into the machine, tape is pulled from the cartridge and threaded into play ready position. When eject mode is engaged, the tape must be pulled back into the cartridge, or you will have tape hanging out the front end of the cartridge, and may get caught on the VCR internals, or at least be mangled by the cartridge door. The often issue here is likely the idler assembly pivot point is sticky. This idler pivots, moving from the take-up reel (right reel) to the supply reel reel (left one), depending on what mode is selected. FFWD & play to the right, left for REW. If this idler is gummed up at it's pivot point, movement will be sluggish at best, and might not be engaging the right reel quickly enough to pull tape in before tape eject. This idler is sitting right between the reels down where the tape sits. A little light oil on the pivot point may be enough to loosen it up. Otherwise it might need to be removed and the old grease removed, and a drop or two of light oil applied.
