When I first power up the tape will be accepted, I can either play, record, fastforward etc, for approx 5 - 10 seconds. Then the caution light starts flashing and I get a code of C31.23 in the top right of the screen. It will eject the tape if it is powered down but not when the power is on. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
This is when the take up reel either stops or when the reel pulses arent been read properly, have you tried a different tape??.It can be caused by tight tape,if this doesnt work is a job for your local sony service center

Try switching tapes, it might be wound to tightly. If no other tape available, rewind fully, fastforward fully, and rewind again, just to make sure tension is not from tape. You could also when opening the cassette loader, jst check if if the little wheel and other parts are moving freely.
O heck my friend, this is mostly a problem with a stupid delicate cylinder within the camera tape area that can (does ) drop off, some times the camera will work 10 or so minutes then stop, some time just changing your camera cass tape will make it work for a while then stop again. It is simply a bad design on Sony cameras you can call Sony for help, if you look for Sony camera service centre in your country on the internet you will see number to get help.
