My sony ericsson s710a mobile phone powers up but the display shows only a faint backlight with no actual display. All of the sounds are working normally, and the keypad lights up too.

First off, is it showing any source of power? If no lights are turning on, check to make sure the battery has a good connection to the pins. Most likely it is a pinched wire inside the case. You will have to reopen the case and move the wires around to make sure they are no longer pinched. Unfortunately, you may have damaged circuitry. If you attempted to power on the phone before rice drying it, then most likely you did, and thats why it will not power on. I suggest rice drying it, after about two days, place the device on a charger. If the red light does not come on after a few hours of charging, the phone is dead, sorry.
You need the USB Dock, not the DCU cable, the cable won't work with what you need, Then go to the support section of Sony Ericsson and upgrade the phone (new firmware) that should unlock it. .
Turn the phone over so that you read Sony Ericsson properly on the back cover. Place your thumb on it and slide left. Now press on the bottom corner of the battery nearest the camera. This should cause the battery to tilt up and you can easily pull it out, otherwise there is something wrong with your phone.
