If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. bonannorl, Maybe it can be fixed. You did not give any history of unit. Only "now" stuff. Is unit covered by Gateway warranty? How old is unit? Date of manufacture? Did unit work fine connected to your pc and this black or black n blank screen thing suddenly happen? Is screen also BLANK? Have you swapped-in old monitor to prove PC is OK? Your CCFL back-lit lcd monitor no different than any other brand in it's basic design and operation. Get into my fixya profile and read some of my testimonials and solutions to black or black n blank screen problems to help in your decision to DIY fix or contract out needed repair work. Most likely 2485w has problem with it's internal "switch-mode-power-supply"/"ccfl inverter supply"!! Let me know more info about unit.

you may got infected...first run scan on the system and then reboot and see if you normally use it then try going to play again if that happen again then you need to get new video card
