SOURCE: I push the button to activate the dryer, the dryer

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
Sounds like your problem may be a broken belt, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley, or idler arm pulley.
If you have to replace your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good luck,
I hope this helps

Turned knob and got a buzz. turned knob again and no sound. Just finished a load and was starting on the next.

Hi. im assuming the buzz came from the timer knob(behind the knob). if so, this will confirm timer failure and, you will need to replace this timer control module in order to restore proper function to your unit.

If the buzz was located behind the start switch, replace as well.

When turning the knob to start dryer, buzzing sounds but drum doesn't start to turn unless you gently push atart the inside drum

The problem is either a faulty start winding in the motor, or the circuit which energizes the start winding is failing.

A dryer motor has two windings: start & run. The start winding gets it going and a centrifugal switch disconnects the start winding when the motor gets up to speed.

Check the dryer start switch -- then the motor connections and the centrifugal switch inside the motor.

My dryer makes a buzzing noise when I push the start button

My Hotpoint dryer is seven years old and did the exact same thing. When I got over the anger and the thought of spending 4 or 5 hundred dollars to replace it I started messing with it. I finally decided that since it buzzed when I tried to start it there was current there. The only other thing it could be was the drying cycle knob.
I held the start knob and let it buzz while I slowly turned the dryer cycle knob to the right. As I turned through each cycle it would hit "off" and the buzzing would stop and then resume as I moved past the "off " setting. On the third trip around the dryer "started" and has been working since. Maybe something got out of kilter. Apparently the problem was in the knob that controls the drying cycles.

Dryer will not start

Hello jslovik,
Welcome

You said, When you turn the knob a buzzing sound starts but that's it. The Buzzing continues as long as the start button is turned. Dryer is only 2 years old. Any help is very appreciated.

It sounds like the starting switch is bad!
