Outlook 2000 "close on reply" won't turn off! suddenly started doing it a couple of days ago. Have checked that this normal feature is turned off, but it still continues to do it.
Hi, Thanks. Nothing changed at all, happened out of the blue earlier this week so I suspect a virus. Have since switched to webroot internet security; some virus's found and eliminated, but problem remains. I thought perhaps email options had been inadvertently changed, but all is normal and "close after reply" box is UNchecked.Hi, Thanks. One thing I have found during the last 20 years you do not use an email program that downloads your emails to your computer if you do and have a computer problem then all emails are lost go to your service providers website and log into your email account from there
and any emails that are from unknown sources delete them More viruses are spread through emails than is realised this is probably what you have so run Malwarebytes to check it out
1. In Outlook 2007, click the Tools menu and select Options. 2. In the Options dialog box, click the Mail Setup tab and then click the Data Files button. 3. In the Account settings window, you will see all of your personal Outlook data files listed. Here, you want to note the full path to each data file. On my system, my Outlook personal and archive folders are stored in the C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. 4. Once you have this information, close the Account Settings dialog box and then close the Outlook Options window.
Now that you have the location of your Outlook data files, you need to check and repair them using the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool-SCANPST.exe. By default, you should see SCANPST.exe in the Microsoft Office installation folder's "Office 12" subfolder. On my system, SCANPST.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12. For additional information on SCANPST.exe, take a look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, "How to use the Inbox Repair Tools to recover e-mail messages in Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003."
To check and repair your Outlook data files, follow these steps:
1. First, close Outlook 2007. 2. Use Windows Explorer to browse to SCANPST.exe, then double-click it. 3. When the Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool opens, click Browse and navigate to the Outlook data file location that you found earlier. Note that you will need to check each file listed. On my system, I start with the file archive.pst. To check that file, you would select it in the "Select File to Scan" dialog box and then click Open. 4. Now click Start to begin the repair process.
In this case I usually use someone program from the Inet. But couple days ago my good friend suggested me a new tool, which surprised me and resolved my old troubles with outlook express emails, moreover I hope it will relieve in such situation as well - outlook express repair.
Disconnect the network-cable from your computer, to block Internet access.
Start Outlook Express.
Instead of selecting the "Inbox" mail-folder,
select the "Outbox" folder.
Click once to select the E-mail message.
Use your mouse to "drag-and-drop" the message to your "Inbox" folder.
Close Outlook Express.
Reconnect the network-cable.
Open Outlook Express.
Check your "Inbox" for that "undeliverable" message.
Open the message, or delete the message.
i am assuming you have anti virus software but if not you should get the free version of AVG.
I also recommend downloading MalwareBytes and also doing a scan with that... Malwarebytes is an excellent spyware cleaner that finds many problems other dont.
Close Outlook > Start > C drive > Programs file > Microsoft Office > Office 11 for 2003 , office 12 for 2007 > scanpst.exe > Browse to you Outlook pst file ie search for *.pst > Start > repair
