This repair should be taken to a expert, If you take this cordwinder apart and don't know what you are doing you could end up having to replace the cordwinder because of the spring tensioner.
Unfortunaly I don't have that wiring diagram. I am sure that the service manual can be ordred thru sears as they are the carriers for this material. What excactly is the issue and maybe we won't need the diagram.
The switch is definitely a possibility, but other problems can also cause this.
Bad switch, needs replaced.
Broken wiring in power nozzle, wands, hose, or canister.
Bad PN motor.
I strongly recommend taking it to the nearest authorized Aerus Electrolux store for a diagnosis (should be free). Allowing them to do any repairs necessary is recommended, as well. This will ensure it's done correctly.
The top and bottom of the canister need to be separated to gain access. I don't recommend this being done by the owner as it is tricky taking it apart, and even trickier reassembling it. Please take it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store for a trained service tech to repair.
I've seen many vacuum come in to the shop due to the owner being unable to put it back together, putting it together incorrectly , and/or having broken pieces.
The top and bottom of the canister need to be separated. The back won't come off without doing so. The user's manual doesn't cover that.
This is a repair that really should be taken care of by an authorized Aerus Electrolux technician. Taking it apart is relatively easy, however reassembling correctly is a bit tricky. Actually, disassembly is, too.
The best thing to do is take it in for a clean and service. That will extend the life of the motor by getting rid of any dust that has gotten through the bags and inside the machine. Other parts which effect the effectiveness of the vacuum also get cleaned. Potential problems can be found and corrected before they become real and major problems.
You need an Electrolux Cannister bag to fit pre 2001 Series cannisters. You can fin them at a VAC Service center or thru AERUS Electrolux. Buy only a 4 ply bag, nothing thinner.
If you can't get it to go back in by pulling on it, you will need to open up the machine to rewind it by hand. Open the front of the canister and remove the bag. As you are looking at the front of the unit, there are two vinyl coverd strips that run the length of the unit. Pull forward on these strips and then pull out so that the vinyl seperates from the plastic underneath. Now grab the plastic strip with a pair of needle nose pliers and pull towards the front of the canister. These can be tough if the machine has never been opened up before, but pull as hard as you need to, to slide the strip out. Once both strips are out, turn the machine over, pull out on the sides of the bottom of the unit, and lift up. The bottom should come of relatively easily, and eveything will be exposed. You can now see the cordwinder and the spring that pulls the cord back in. If it's not broken, you should be able to manipulate the spring reel by hand and get the cord started so that it will rewind by itself. If not, you probably need to have the cordwinder replaced. Good Luck!!
