It must be the cmos battery? Get the manual of your laptop and locate the battery. If it is easily accessible then swap for a new one. Contact HP if you are not sure!

Hi

Thank you for your query

From your description, indeed it does sound like the CMOS battery, however the vest way to check is next time you start the Laptop do the following

1)When loading the laptop there will be a message that says hit F12 or hit the del key etc etc to get into bios, press the appropriate key, if there is no such messgae try the keys F12, del or esc

once in Bios check the time if it is incorrect then it is the CMOS battery, if it isnt then it is windows related

However from what you are describing it does seem to be the CMOS battery

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial as this will help me greatly - Thank You again

Why does sony HDR-SR11 not keep time and date memorized

cmos battery probably needs replacing had it ,and is not holding charge and therefore looses time and date as clock stops when unit switched off.you will need to access cmos battery and actual replace is easy ,though sometimes getting to cmos battery takes a bit of effort and time.

How do i clear cmos on my dell inspiron 5000e laptop. i made bad settings for the laptop power and made a bad mistake and it wont start up

In the old days you would remove the CMOS battery but they have made them very difficult to get to - you have to take the whole laptop apart. You can check the Dell site to see if the CMOS battery is accessible.
Here is a technique that works on IBMs among others:
Unplug from AC and remove battery. Press the power switch 10 times and the hold down for 30 seconds. That may do the trick.
Let me know if it does so I can post it elsewhere.

Wont wake up

Try removing the battery for a few minutes with the power unplugged. Reinstall the battery and power and give it a shot. If this works then you had a very locked up system; if not then it's likely to be the main board.

Toshiba A135-S4527 cmos battery dead

I found where the cmos battery is located. By the Toshiba tech support website , it's next to the PCMCIA Slot, just behind it. To get to it, Take off LCD, keyboard, top palmrest, hard drive, battery, memory, top power cover, switch board, modem, network. and some others. Too many to describe here. Items to remove not in order.
I Have the service manual downloaded already.
