20 Most Recent HP Compaq nx5000 Notebook Questions & Answers

I don't know what OS your HP laptop is installed with.

If it is Windows 8, Windows Password Hint, PIN code, Microsoft account can be used to login HP laptop. After logon successfully, change, recover or reset Windows 8 password is available.

If it is Windows 7, Password hint or another administrator account may help you. But if you don't have all of these, try password reset disk. Create it before Windows 8 locked or with Windows 8 Password Recovery tool is OK.
Besides these, Chntpw USB disk also works for Windows 7/Vista etc.

if the usb detects other devices and not your drive, the drive itself may be faulty. If you plug in other devices in the usb and it detects them the usb drive or its connector is most likely bad.If it won't detect any devices the port is bad and drivers won't help.Possibly a motherboard issue.

If this is an XP machine, it is no longer supported. I recommend backing up your personal data asap. If you have important files on it, you could purchase a USB Hard Drive Adaptor, pull out the hard drive, and copy any important files to another machine. Then you could try doing a System Restore if you have the disc.

If you lost windows password. I think the best solution is making awindows password recovery disk with the third part utility. The diskcan work perfectly to recover windows password to “Blank”. It is also useful for administrator password recovery, you can wrote it to an blank CD or USB flash drive to recover administrator password. Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

I just got my nx5000 up and running again. The memory needed to be reseated in the socket (got this tip of the HP site) All I did was open it up and reseat the ram - just took it out and put it back in again. Problem solved. I also took the opportunity to vacuum a little bit of dust out, but I don't think this was anything to do with the problem.

Get a copy of the service manual (Just google "hp service manual nx5000") it has easy instructions at how to get to the memory - it is just under the keyboard.

Hope this helps!

Have you tried an external monitor? Plug one in while the laptop is off, then turn it on. If no video on the external monitor, then there's a hardware issue somewhere else. Such as ram, motherboard or possibly cpu.

if it's a driver issue, HP/Compaq should have the drivers oon their site for your system, all you need to do is select which of the two models of theNX5000 you have, and get the drivers from HP, here's a link http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=395654
