SOURCE: carrier split 42G250HF-1(indoor unit

I'm not sure exactly what unit you have and what controls you have installed on the unit. But....there usually is a flash code schematic on the unit. Usually on the inside of the blower compartment cover. This should tell you what is wrong with the unit. It could have a low voltage short somewhere and is loosing the call for cool. So the answer can be a possible yes to your question but without knowing the flash code, it's hard to tell from my point of view. You might end up calling a service professional out to check it.

SOURCE: how to pump down a ductless air conditioner split unit to remove

if the unit contains R12 or R22 you are not permitted by law to do the work yoiurself .. you have to have a "certified" person to reclaim the freon ... you might be able to get away with removing R134A (check local law) if thats what it has ... there is a service port that you can hook gages/hoses/vacuum pump up to .. (if not, then one must be added, usually in the form of a saddle valve that penetrates a low side feed pipe ... you should vent it into an approved tank or bladder (like a big balloon) for disposal or reclamation .. there may be a community service in your area that comes out and reclaims freon from old refrigerators and such .. in my area there is a free service that will reclaim the refrigerant and take away the old equipment .. i think its free or low cost .. some people simply vent R134 to atmosphere but that is polluting and may violate some laws .. R134 was thought to pose little hazzard but that is being reconsidered now in many countries

you can become certified yourself by attending a class and taking an exam that shows you understand the dangers and are aware of the law ..

SOURCE: Where can I get an Installation Manuel on

You can go to goodmans website located at:
http://www.goodmanmfg.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx
and search for your closest dealer/distributer and they can email you the manual. At this time, they don't have it on their website, not even under the dealer area (I am an authorized Goodman dealer) If they are unable to help you, send me an email ([email protected]) and I will get a copy for you and email it to you.

No power at interior unit. power everywhere else

If this is a mini split ductless there is a control wire with 3-4 wires inside (normally red, white, blue and green) that is connected from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit. This wire feeds voltage from the o.d. unit to the I.d. unit. If all connections at the o.d. unit are good, then check for voltage at these connections at the o.d. unit. If no power at these connections then a circuit board has faulted. Call a tech. and have a tech support number ready (1-800#) in case your service tech don't have it.

I have a Mitsubishi heat pump that runs well but the outdoor unit does not defrost what could be the problem.

Why does my heat pump ice up in Winter?
Heat pumps naturally ice-up in the winter. It is normal for the entire coil to be covered in a white frost and even light ice, during cold weather conditions. However, it is bad for the entire unit to be encased in ice. This indicates ductless heat pump problems which should be addressed quickly to save energy and avoid serious damage to your ductless unit. These systems should periodically go into a defrost cycle. This keeps the unit running efficiently. If the coils are blocked by ice, proper heat transfer between the coil and the outside air will not occur.
How does the defrost mode work?
When the mini split heat pump goes into defrost, the reversing valve inside of the outdoor unit is energized, switching the system from heat to the air conditioning mode. The outdoor coil becomes the hot, the indoor coil becomes cold, and both - the outdoor and indoor fans shut off. This allows the outdoor coil to melt accumulated ice. When the built-in micro-computer analyzes that all ice have been melted, the heat pump heating system goes back to heating mode.
sanyo-mini-split-defrost.pngA cloud of water vapor may be seen rising over the outdoor unit and a "whoosh" sound can be heard as the refrigerant reverses direction. The entire process usually takes up to 10 minutes (depending on conditions).
How often does the system goes into defrost mode?
Ductless mini-split heat pumps have different ways of determining when to go into defrost. The built-in microcomputer determines outdoor temperature, refrigerant pressures, and several other factors. In colder temperatures the system will go into defrost more often than in warmer.
If a ductless mini split heat pump is severely iced-up in the winter it is possible that it isn't defrosting (though there could be many other causes). Let the manufacturer certified technician check your system

Soleus KFGHP-09-ID Mini Split

This is normal operation for these styles of minisplits. The thermostat is not in the remote but is located on the return air of the indoor coil, so the air needs to be flowing in order for the thermostat to measure the rooms temperature. Set your fan speed to auto and the fan will slow down when setpoint tempurature is met.
