Silly question - but I assume you have it plugged in to the mains also? Can you see lights inside the 1TB? If there are no lights - there is no power. Check the connections from WD TB to PC.

Hi, my ps3 won't recognise my 1tb wd external hard

The problem with the new 1Tb WD Passport that I just purchased is that it is a USB 3.0 format and apparently PS3 doesn't recognize that speed.

Haven't found a workaround for it yet, but all these people advising you to reormat anew Passport drive are wasting your time.

I accidentally plugged in my 19v toshiba laptop adapter to my 16v 1tb external hard drive it started up but then i plugged it out soon is it possible that the hard drive will work or is it dead, if no

The electronics in the hard drive is damaged and cannot be repaired by us mortals.
There are companies that can recover data from damaged hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

WD Software will not load up, and Windows keeps giving me an I/O error. With the I/O error, I am not able to see or access any files that I have on my WD MyPassport 1TB, SN WXD0AA9W6561

Have you tried another USB port.Try not using a USB hub and plug it into a different port on your PC. Also try temporarily disabling your virus and anti-spyware program. My virus program Antivir always blocks my WD software. There may have been an update that now blocks it. Check all your cables and plugs on the WD drive and if still not working try starting your pc in safe mode and see if the WD drive is recognized. Hope this was some help, Thanks for using FixYa

Computer freezes on start-up when western digital 1tb external hdd plugged in to computer, computer starts fine with it unplugged. The hard drive can be plugged back in after start-up.

This is a known problem with these drives. Disabling USB legacy support in your Bios should solve the problem., it did in my case but at the expense of not being able to boot from a USB device. Definitley a problem with their enclosure or drive.

Hard Drive Not detected/Windows still boots

I notice that in all of your ramblings that you do not mention the BIos settings
AS everything is decided in the bios it is important that you start there
those settings decide ( after the pc does the POST checking process that checks all the hardware of the pc)) which area the system uses to boot from
so you select --boot from hdd 1 as first option, next boot cd next option etc so that the pc knows where to look for the os (win7) system
if you are not aware of how
to get to bios --- shut the pc down
restart and hold down del button and the bios screen will come up moving around the bios menu is by the arrows and enter button
in there you will find a password section
for your benefit , ignore and move on

WD 1TB working properly for some time

Make sure the power supply (power brick) for the mybook is working. (unplug both ends or the power cable and plug back end)

do the same for the USB cable. Still no luck? Plug the USB connector into a different port on the PC and see if that changes your luck.
