I have a camera Canon EOS 350 D and I am trying to download photos to my new computer with Window 7. I installed the original software but it is impossible to download (no compatibel device). Can you help...

If the camera software loaded and is working with Windows 7 then you can ether purchase a memory card reader or try to update the camera firmware.

Going onto the Canon site search through the updates to find your camera model (it'll be there) and download the updates to the camera firmware. Normally you download to the camera memory card then place it back in the camera and upload the new information to the camera.

In theory it works like a charm but sometimes the advanced computer programing just is not compatible with the cameras and that's why I suggested getting a memory card reader. The computer loos at this as an external hard drive, make a folder in "My Documents" open the files from the memory card copy and then paste them in the new folder.

The camera software can open them and you can continue along as normal.

I Have upgraded to Windows 7 - now my PC will not recognise my Rebel XT

Have you considered NOT connecting the camera to the computer? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can continue using whatever software you used before upgrading.

I cannot get Remote Shooting option when I loaded the software for my Canon 350D (Rebel XT) camera on a computer with Vista. The software loads the Remote Shooting option for computers with Windows XP....

According to Canon, camera communication is supported by Vista, like you have experienced. See:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=215&modelid=11209

The software that ships with the XT does not support Vista. To enable this support, you need to download an update from Canon. Click the following link and select Vista as your O/S from the drop-down box at the top:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=314&modelid=11209

Note that there are also several updates there that you may want to download and install as well.

I loved my XT until my wife dropped it on vacation a couple months ago.

Hope this helps.

Can't download pictures.

This may not be a solution for you but I had the same problem and solved it like this. First go to Canons Rebel XT download site (do a google search on canon rebel downloads and it's the first hit) Then choose your OS (Operating system) in the pull down menu. If it's XP then the first download you'll see on the list is for WIA560EN.exe which is the drivers you need. (if it's Vista it's VU600EN.exe ) Install whichever drivers you need and make a note of where your computer has stored it. In my case (XP) it was a file called EOS 3KRN in the Canon folder.

Now connect the camera to your computer and go to Control Panel and select 'Add Hardware'. The camera should show up with a yellow question mark on it. Go through the 'install new hardware' process and choose (I can't remember the exact words) 'I know where the files are located' or words to that effect. and 'browse' when it wants to know where the drivers or disk are located. When it asks where the drivers are located choose browse and go to My Computer, then C drive, then Program Files, then Canon, then EOS 3KRN (or whatever your downloaded drivers were called depending if its XP Vista or Mac etc) Choose this as the file Windows needs to look at to find the drivers. After a few seconds it finds the drivers and installs the camera drivers correctly and your camera is now ready to work with the computer. That's it.

It looks quite complicated written down but it's not that difficult really. Hope that helps :) If you're confused by the directions I'll try to make it clearer

My XT will not connect to Vista.

Well, that worked perfectly. Turn on your Rebel XT camera and under Menu then Tools go to Communication and set it to Print/PTP. Thank you to all you very smart people!

Cannot correctly install my camera to my computer.

Once you installed the drivers and software from CD, once you connect the camera to USB port, it should automatically detect tyhe new device and configure the drivers and then say ready to use new device. Or at most say ready to use new device after reboot. You don't normally have to manually do anything. After this your My Computer should show an additional Disk Drive that represents your camera.
