Cannot correctly install my camera to my computer.

I installed the software just like it said on the manual. However when I followed the instructions for installing the cameras it doesn't work. The instructions say that after I connect the camera to the computer and turn it on, a pop-up menu appears on the right part of the toolbar. Once that menu disappears the camera should be installed. This is were the problem for me lies because after that pop-up menu disappears a dialog box appears that says Found New Hardware. If I try to install the camera using this it doesn't work and my instructions make no mention of this occurrence for Windows XP.

Once you installed the drivers and software from CD, once you connect the camera to USB port, it should automatically detect tyhe new device and configure the drivers and then say ready to use new device. Or at most say ready to use new device after reboot. You don't normally have to manually do anything. After this your My Computer should show an additional Disk Drive that represents your camera.

I have a coolpix p2 digital camera and I just want to know how I hook up my digital camera to my computer because the instruction book that I have is in spanish. can you please help

You can download the user manual (English) from:
http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/P1P2_en.pdf

The following is taken from the manual (page 61):
"Using the UC-E6 USB cable and PictureProject software provided with your camera,
you can transfer photographs and movies to a computer and view them. Before
images can be transferred (copied) to your computer, PictureProject must be
installed. For information on installing PictureProject, see the Quick Start Guide
and the PictureProject Reference Manual (on CD).
You can transfer images to a computer using a wireless LAN and play back the
pictures on computer. See "Wireless Transfer Mode" (c132) for more information."

Or you can use the Windows XP software. Step by step instructions on downloading and installing the software is given in the following website:

It wont download pictures to the computer

If I remember correctly, you needed to install the software and the drivers before connecting the camera by USB cable. It should all have been done with the camera not connected.
If you did it while it was connected, you must try uninstaling the software, and going into Device Manager and finding the specific driver fot that camera and Kodak, and removing that too.
Then restart your PC and start fresh.
Do the Software and Driver installation without the camera being installed or attached.
Once you have done the installation of software and driver, then, following the instructions, you can attach the camera and it should work this time.
