HP DeskJet 840c

Hi, I have a printer (HPDJ840c) connected direct to a computer, I can print test pages and some emails, but other emails won't print.

The settings are the same for all the documents I print (A4, portrait, memo style) sometimes I get the message saying the document was sent and the printer sounds like it will start printing then doesn't, other times I get the message confirming printing then nothing. I don;t get the printer Icon in the system tray.

However, when I select a different email to print it works fine... I've reinstalled/updated the drivers and I can print to another (networked) printers. Just a few emails sent to the 840c are being a PITA. Any ideas?

Thanks

Rob

Changing the cable didn't work. But it seems unplugging it help me print 1 of the emails off, the others still won't.

Hi I think your printer has a parallel connector ( big D shaped socket with wire clips each end) on it if your pc also has a parallel plug get a parallel lead and install the drivers to use LPT1 this should remove the faulty USB plug from the problem

HP DESK TOP 840C PRINTER CONNECTION

Hello,

They do make adater cables for such problems. Here is just one such example: Parallel to USB Cable

Make sure you get the correct 25 pin cable. They have this type also:

Parallel to USB Cable 2

You can search the web for more companies. Google parallel to usb printer cable.

After saying all that and checking your printer info, I see that the 840c has both a parallel and a USB cable port. See page 21 of the manual: HP 840c Manual

If you go that route, you will need a standard USB cable. The shorter the better, but no longer than a 6' cable. Make sure you follow the iinstallation instructions for the USB setup in the manual.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Wont prit

reboot the computer and the printer..
then try to do a "Print Test Page"..if it still does not print, turn off the computer again, unplug the printer from the back of the computer ( I assume it's connected via USB), then plug the printer on a different usb slot on the computer.. you may have to re-install the drivers. make sure you have the cd for the printer.

Hope this helps.

HP Deskjet 840c - Printing Emails

I did see you reinstalled your software) but please continue
It is important that you have that icon by the clock. Power off the printer by pressing the power button on the printer.
Please un-install your printer software through Add/Remove Programs within the control panel. Please restart the Pc after un-install is complete. Create a folder on your hard drive and name it, "HP DeskJet 840C". Go to this link listed below & download the printer driver software listed. When you save to disk you can choose where you want to save. Pick the folder you created. Save inside this folder. The HP driver (Will most likely be updated software). I promise, you will have a icon down by your clock when finished.

Follow the instruction in your manual for setup & installation.
If you using Outlook Express & you want to print or send through your printer the page should be set as 8.5x11". Orientation should be set to Portrait, unless you set this for A4.
Lastly, please turn off your anti-virus software during install & re-install. Just in case you come back to this thread!

Printer will not print.

In your print utility, you need to calibrate your printer, which will print a test page and realign your cartridges. It should be OK after this. If not restart the printer and the computer.
