Acer Aspire 5100 monitor will not stay on

My monitor will not stay on, if I use the fn+f6 key, it comes on for a second then goes blank again, even when it does come on for that second, it is just barely visible. I have performed a system restore, which did nothing. Is this a hardware issue, or is there another step I can take before bringing it in for repairs?

Hello,

I would advice you take it for repairs, because the best thing to do was system restore and since you've done it and the problem still persist, then I think it needs a professional care/touch.

Therefore I think you guessed right, it should be an hardware issue.

Best wishes.

How do i find hotkeys on acer aspire 5515 laptop

The Hotkeys are;

1) Fn (Function Key) + F1 = Hotkey Help; Displays help on Hotkeys

To go on anyway;

2) Fn + F2 = launches Acer eSettings Management in Acer Empowering Technology.

3) Fn + F3 = Launches Acer ePower Management in Acer Empowering Technology.

4) Fn + F4 = Puts the computer in Sleep Mode

5) Fn + F5 = Toggle the laptop from it's monitor to an external monitor, or use both.

6) Fn + F6 = Screen Blank > Turns the Display Backlight off to save power. Press any key to return.

7) Fn + F7 = Touchpad toggle > Turns the internal Touchpad on and off.

8) Fn + F8 = Speaker toggle> Turns the speakers on and off

9) Fn + Right Hand Triangle > Brightens the LCD screen

10) Fn + Left Hand Triangle > Decreases the LCD screen brightness

Acer Aspire 5515 Service Manual ( Free)

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

Go down to the second Aspire heading.
The one that starts with Aspire 1200.
Drop down to line 6, then go across to the right, and click on 5515.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
I would suggest upgrading to Adobe Reader 9 (9.3.4.) though, if this isn't the version on the computer.

After you click you may not see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.
The file is downloading in the background.
Usually it takes a few seconds to see the first page, and additional time to fully download.
Suggest you let the file fully download before looking through it.

This is a SERVICE MANUAL, not a User Manual. Much more detailed, including disassembly procedures.

My monitor won't turn on on my acer aspire one

Hello rcaste39,

Have you tried holding the [Fn] key at lower left of the keyboard and pressing the [F6] key in the top row at the same time? The [Fn] and [F6] keys combination toggles the screen on and off.

If this solution is helpful please click a thumbs-up rating below.

Have a great day,

My laptop comes on everything lights up except the screen

it would be the blue lettered fn and f6 keys, hold fn key-then hit the f6 key to toggle display. otherwise try and reset the notebook- take out battery and unplug the unit. then push and hold the power button for 60 seconds. then put the battery and plug it back in, and try and see if that works. this has worked on my acer 5100 several times! the screen could have a problem also. this is what i worry about every time this happens 2 me. good luck! if i can help more reply.

I just got an acer zg5 and the screen is blank

It sounds like your trying to use a full size monitor with your laptop. If that's the case you have to send the video to the cabled monitor by pressing the "fn" (function key) and then pressing the corresponding key that refers to a secondary video device (i.e. projector, monitor, etc.). Typically you press "fn" and f4 (should have monitor looking picture next to it), Some laptops are different, so look at your function (F1 - F12) keys to see which one is correct.

My FN+F6 doesnt keep my screen on the laptop open

Change the settings from the display settings panel. (Right click on the desktop and go to display settings)
You should see 2 monitors graphically represented there.
You can make the monitor that is greyed out active by right clicking on the monitor, and selecting active.
