I want adresse 192.168.?.?

should be 192.168.1.1 which is the default ip for most device. if you connect it to a router/switch you will have to remove and connect it to directly to your link source to configure it. After this you remove and connect to your router/switch since you have configured an ip for it to use. If you are using this as your modem then the above ip should work for this abd note that some service providers do not allow wirless as being its modem so check with your service provider if you are using this on the internet.
Again when you configure note that you can assign an ip from 192.198.1.2 going to the device if you are note using that as the modem.
To configure the device connect it to the main souce of link. open a browser and enter 192.168.1.1 (which is the default modem address). when asked for a password enter admin, username is also admin(this is for most device and if it does not work for you refer to the device manual for its default username and password).
Guess you should find your way out in the configuration. For more help refer to the device manual like i said and also find out more information from your isp.
good luck

I need to set this router up. I don't know how to make the connection secure with a password. I am not technically savvy, so if you could "Dummy it down" I'd appreciate it.

You are tying to set up the router .
It is very easy !
first make sure that your main computer will be able to go online when connected directly to the modem, without the router.
Once you are able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working. you can set up the router manually.
