These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. check the capacitors and replace the power components check mother board also .. not handy with electronics and soldering call tv repairman 75-150 dollars Fix ?????

Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits.
You must have through knowledge in electronics to proceed. This is a very skilled wor. You must have all measuring instruments, and ability to follow its schematic diagram.

Likely damage to main power supply-------try to see if there is a specific number of blinks then a pause and repeats like 7 blinks a pause and repeats---that is an error code if there---with it AND THE MODEL NUMBER OF THE TV I might be able or not to help.

These sets usually if do not turn on will have the power light blink a sequence--7 blinks, pause 7 blinks etc.


A model number would help here.

I HAVE A SONY TRINITRON KV-36HS510. IM HAVING A PROBLEM,ITS NOT SHOWING A PIC, AND BLINKING 7 TIMES THEN PAUSE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS THEN IT WILL BLINK 7 MORE TIMES,I CAN HEAR AUDIO BUT CANNOT SEE PIC. COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME OUT ,I'VE TRIED CUTTING THE TV OFF FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS AND CUTTING IT BACK ON,SAME RESULTS, THANKS

I am having this same problem. I have "fixed" this problem twice by replacing 2 failed capacitors inside. The fix is pretty easy and the cost of the replacement parts is about $2.50. Unfortunately, the fix doesn't last. The first time, the TV worked again for about 6 months, but the 2nd time, when I replaced with higher grade capacitors, I only got another 2 weeks out of the TV. I think it's time to cut my losses and get a new set. Repair costs were estimated at $600. ...just not worth it.

The 7 blinks are an error indication that is generated by protection circuitry inside the set. A problem has been detected and the set is shutdown to prevent further damage. The cilnking is the power relay that is attempting to turn on the set. I'll look up the eror code and update this with the likely solution later today.
