Start your laptop and goto your BIOS and check if SATA setting is available.if available then configured it in IDE Mode or disable it, (if disable option is available).
Now, you should be able to installed windows XP without any problem;
Usually these days,Laptop BIOS comes with little or standard setting;if that is the case;then you will need SATA driver during installation in other to recognise your SATA hard drive.
