I use VLC Media Player. It works great and it is free! Go ahead and Google VLC and it will lead you to this site:

Hope this solves your problem. I assume you have Windows 10 at this point.

SPEAKERS FAIL BY VLC

VLC is an open source media player. It will play cd's and dvd's and it will play videos that Windows Media Player has a problem with. VLC comes with drivers and codec and i've seen it solve issues with audio and sound that Windows Media Player had a problem with.

Dvd ram only recognizes cd's not dvd's keeps telling me to insert disc

Go to your computer and open the window. Find your DVD drive, right click and choose properties. Look for the Recording tab and unclick "enable CD recording on this drive". If that does not work, go to either windows update and look for hardware updates or to your laptop manufacturer website and look under the support heading for downloads and drivers for your model. Then look for a DVD updated driver or firmware update.

If you found this information helpful, please remember to leave positive feedback, if not let me know how I can assist you further.

Thank You,

My toshiba a15's cd/dvd rom can't read dvd's anymore. it used to. is it just a setup thing? thanks

The newer dvd's often won't play on older machines. The easiest solution is to download and install the VLC Media Player. The VLC Media Player is an open source free player and can be downloaded here.

Hope this solves the problem.

My dvd writer reads cd but not dvd why

The wavelength of the laser is different, 780nm for CD and 640 for the DVD, there are two LEDs inside the optical unit. One of the two may be lame.

Change the optical drive, or at worst player.

However, the problem is easy solve and, what is more, the solution is free.

Download and install the free VLC from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/. Run it from the Start menu and insert the disc you want, and it should start playing the disc immediately. VLC can be used to play most other media files, such as downloaded videos. VLC is a powerful media playback application and supports DVDs and many other media file types.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 Notebook running WindowsXP with a DVD-RW/CD-RW drive. When I insert a DVD to play or to copy it won't work, it tells me I need a DVD decoder. How can I get one to solve this...

Hi,
Just download FFDShow and VLC MEDIA PLAYER.
Its extremely rare with this combination, to find a movie that wouldn't play,

get FFDShow here http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=5550&s=50
with ffdshow all you need to do is to run the setup file and click next repeatedly untill the setup is complete, and then just finish it, close it and its done, works on the background when movies are played.

vlc media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

After you got these two installed, you should be able to play most if not all of the movies out there.

open vlc media player and then click File, dvd movie.

No sound output and will not reconize Dvd's, but will reconize cd's

I'll take that as a no,

In fact the default for most types of media is media player but it doesn't include all of the relevant codex's you require for every type of media by default.

Most manufacturers include this software with their computers/DVDROM's but not always.

The reason I assume it is your codex not being installed is simple, you can play CD's, that means the drive works, media player works, sound card works and speakers work. The only common problem that would cause this is a missing or corrupted codex.

try something for me and let me know if it solves the problem.

Install VLC player http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

Then try to play the DVD using VLC player. If it asks to update itself, let it.

Comment back here once you have tried and let me know how you make out.
