Cause 1. The ASUS laptop system may have some issues.
Cause 2. There is a likelihood that your DVD player software is not functioning well.

I use VLC Media Player. It works great and it is free! Go ahead and Google VLC and it will lead you to this site:

Have you contacted ASUS technical support?
Are data discs readable?
Does the disc spin in the drive?
Does the LED on the drive tray blink?
Does the drive appear in the system?
Does the drive make any sounds?
Are the discs in good condition?
