Updated the drivers for your sound card? it could be incompatible (not the correct driver) if prior to updating the sound still works.

I don't have any sound

If you actually hear sound from your laptop when playing other audio files like MP3s or audio CDs, the first thing you check if the Volume Control of the media player that you are using to watch the soaps. If these are streaming videos, look at the speaker/volume level and make sure it is set to high. Make sure as well the volume icon usually located at the bottom portion of the video playback is not turned off or muted.

If no audio at all from your computer, plug in external speakers or try headphones to see if you will get sound. If you do, most likely, your internal speakers have to be replaced. If no audio even on external speakers or headphones, check your general volume controls, set them to high and make sure none are muted, and verify that you have the correct audio controller selected for playbak.

If that still fails, reinstall your audio driver and if no improvement, most likely, you need the audio controller/motherboard replaced.

Volume wont work

If the volume is not working please check the following:

Try Playing different type of sound files and identify if the problem is with all the files ? (Play a video online on youtube or so and a music file from your system)

If not then it could be software problem with the audio software like window media player and updating the codecs would fix the issue( download k-lite codecs from google and install it)

You should also check if the system sound is put on mute

You can do so by clicking on the volume control icon on the bottom right system tray or by openning the control panel then going on to Hardware and sound and then to sound (adjust system volume)

Else its most probably device or driver issue

Check first if the audio device is enabled

For this you got to click start and click Run or type RUn in start search and once you get the RUN box type in devmgmt.msc...this would open up device manager windows

In device manager check Sound Video and game controler, check i it has a cross mark (X) or an Exclamation mark (!) if so then right click and enable it if disabled or update driver if it has got exclamation mark

Even if this does not help then you will have to load the sound driver either from driver and application CD that you got from Dell or online from www.support.dell.com

This would solve the problem

Thanks

The sound on my dell xps m140 does not work. All drivers are loaded but no sound

Had the exact same problem with exact same computer. Do the following:

1. check for virus, spyware, malware, etc.
2. uninstall driver and reinstall.

If you continue to have problems, check for sound using headphones or external speakers. If this works, order a set of speakers online and replace them. If this does not work then it's your sound card and for that you might need a pc repair tech. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I have no sound on my dell xps m140 laptop

Check if the computer is on mute.

Then try to plug in a headphone check if it will
make any sound then if not update the audio driver.

If that's not working try to check if the right device is selected under the sound properties in control panel.

If that is still not working run the diagnostics in the computer, you can access that by f12 you will run into a first part of the test which may take aroun 10 mins then it will ask you to continue the remaining test press no then after that it will ask you to press any to boot to the partition then hit enter after that it
will ask you on what kind of diagnostics you want to run, select on custom test,. under custom test you will see all the items you have in your computer, select speakers or audio then it will perform a test
in your speakers if it make a sound then there is something wrong with your windows you might wanna back up your file, if it still does not make any sound you'll need to replace the speakers.

Hope this helps!
