SOURCE: Hotpoint FFA70P Bottom freezer not working

HI The thermostat control is usually mounted inside the refrigerator. Its visible control knob is turned to regulate the refrigerator/freezer temperature. The workability of this control can be tested in various ways, depending on the problem. To test the thermostat control:

Step 1:
If the compressor runs all the time, turn the control knob to the OFF position. If the compressor still runs, unplug the unit, then pull off the control knob and remove the screws holding the thermostat in place. Pull out the thermostat and remove either the red or the blue wire from its terminal. Plug in the unit. If the compressor doesn't run, the thermostat is faulty. Replace it with a new thermostat.

Step 2:
If the compressor runs after the wire is removed from its terminal, there is probably a short circuit somewhere in the unit's wiring. In this case, don't try to fix the problem yourself; call a professional service person.

Step 3:
If the refrigerator or freezer runs but the box doesn't cool, unplug the unit and remove the thermostat with a screwdriver. Disconnect both wires from the thermostat. Tape the ends of the wires together with electrical tape, and plug in the appliance. If the refrigerator starts and runs normally, the thermostat is faulty. Replace it with a new one of the same type. Connect the new thermostat the same way the old one was connected.

Step 4:
If the freezer compartment is normal but the refrigerator box doesn't cool, set the dials that control both compartments to mid-range. Remove these knobs (they're usually friction-fit). Then unscrew the temperature control housing; you'll see an air duct near the control. Replace the knob on the freezer thermostat and turn the control to the OFF position. Open the refrigerator door and look closely at the air duct. If this duct doesn't open wider in about ten minutes, the control is faulty. Replace the control with a new one of the same type. Connect the new control the same way the old one was connected.

SOURCE: Hotpoint Ice diamond fridge freezer both green & red lights on.?

bulmer...it takes about two days to fully defrost these units unless you take the freezer section cover off and use a heat source. If you do...be sure to protect yourself against water and electricity mixing....not healthy. See below for another note.

clean the condenser coils below the unit.

check for the amount of gas in the unit. It must be off for half an hour. Remove the back fiber panel. The big thing is the compressor. Clean off the largest pipe coming out of it. Plug the unit in...watch out for the fan! The pipe should frost up and then clear off or stay wet after about 5 minutes. It should not be frosty. If it is, you need refrigerant.

Note: If you do remove the inside freezer panel and defrost, you can see how much refrigerant you have in your unit. Start the unit. Wait 5 minutes and observe the coils. They should be evenly frosted end to end. If approximately so, you're good. If not, you're low on gas.

SOURCE: HOTPOINT FFA70 FRIDGE FREEZER

I had this problem and it was fixed relatively easily. Get everything out of your fridge freezer and switch it off overnight to allow it to defrost.

In the bottom freezer compartment there is a panel behind the draws which you can remove but you will need a special tool from a DIY shop. Its like an allen key, but with a star shaped end.

When I got the panel off I found that the filament was covered thick with ice even though it had been off for hours. No wonder it wasn't working properly. I melted this with a hairdryer. You want to take your time with this as you could easily damage the freezer if you try chipping the ice out.

Freezer works perfectly now and is very quiet.

Got a hotpoint ffa97, freezer was still cold and no alarm had gone off to say that that there had been a power cut yet the fridge temp had risen enough to curdle milk??\r\ntemp gauge was still showing...

Milk can sometimes curdle in a working fridge. But it does sound like your defrost system may be malfunctioning. Can you empty your freezer and inspect the defrost system behind the air circulator fan?

I know that defrost elements sometimes go bad and the controllers can pop too. You should check your operators manual and see how to put the fridge into manual defrost. *(it usually involves turning the fridge light on and off by hand. See if the freezer drains during manual defrost. If you have lots of food that dries out in a frost free unit the moisture contains a lot of contaminants that can plug the defrost drain. Which leads to a blocked air passage between the freezer and fridge sides.

You might want to get a small backup fridge for a while to run this down.
Or just use up the food in your fridge before running the tests.

Good luck and be careful.

I have a hotpoint freezer 8742 and the red light came on and it defrosted. how do i get the light to go off and start freezing again

if turning the power off for a short while doesn't work then the unit will need a technicians eye. I would expect it's a thermocouple or thermo switch, but worst case it could be that it's lost gas pressure

Fridge freezer not working Hotpoint RFA17

It is one of two things. Either your compressor went bad or the relay that connects to the compressor is bad. Those are the only two reason why it would not cool at all. You can try to unplug it and plug is back and and see what happens it might shock it back

Hot point (iced diamond) model R564P

Red light refers to temperature failure, green refers to mains power normally. If the unit is running continuously then I would suspect gas loss (if not frost free) or defrost problem (if frost free). If it is gas loss you are probably looking at a new unit. If it is a defrost problem then you could try defrosting and restarting unit. I cannot find your exact model so hard to suggest solutions to. Hope this helps.
