Pioneer vsx-604s power problem

Hi, my name is Pete Gillen and I work at Radioshack in Cheshire,CT. I have a customer who came in to buy a fuse for her Pioneer Receiver. The old fuse looked fine, and so I asked her to bring in the unit so that I could look at it. Anyway, she did, and it looks fine, but will not turn on. The power is getting to the transformer, but I can't get at where it comes out, without completely disassembling the circuit boards. I was hoping that you'd experienced a similar problem with this unit and could point me in the right direction. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, maybe you could point me in the right direction to get a schematic for this. Thanks again, Pete

Please reply if possible to my email ([email protected]) Thanks again

Pete,

The problem is not likely to be the power supply, but shorted output transistors. If you do not see the standby light, then the problem is likely to be either an open standby transformer (primary) or perhaps the 5V regulator transistor. You have given very little info to go on here. Can you provide a little more info on what happens when you try to turn it on?

Thanks,
Dan

I have a Pioneer VSX-640S. The standby light comes on when plugged in, but will not power up (display does not light). I looked at the 2 5A fuses on the inside and they were blown. I have replaced them, but they keep blowing out as soon as it powers on. It seems like the boeard on one side of the amp may have gotten hot as the inside of the case seems dark in a couple spots. Any ideas?

Your problem will be similar. When the B power gets turned on and the outputs are shorted, the surge will cause the fuses to blow. This is a relatively simple repair that will cost around $40 for parts.

Vsx-604s hooked up front speakers A,on freq. mode.No sound.Power stand-by not lite

Look at the cables again could be a simple fix. Maybe they are not located into the right sockets. Check out the fuse. Or maybe change the plug

Try swapping everything external to the amp with another channel to see if it follows. Could be the speaker wire or the speaker. If it stays on the same output then it's time for a new amp.
