It won't come on unless I remove the drawer, put it back in, but then it only runs for a very short time. It's not dehumidifying..Any suggestions for reason/fix/or repair service?

There's a switch activated by you removing it and putting it back in...that switch could be loose or defective...if the Dehumidifier has a Digital screen etc it could be a problem in the circuit board itself . The switch is there to shut off the unit when the pan is full...well the switch would be the first place I look.....and when the unit stops what happens???...the empty tray light comes on ??? It may be possible to install the drawer incorrectly...make sure it sits in properly etc

Why does compressor continue running, even with dehumidifier turned off?

So I just had this happen with my Frigidaire fad704dwd dehumidifier. I went to basement and heard it running and sounded off. The compressor was running fan was off which is bad and humidity said 30. I then pushed the off button and it stayed running. I was able to fix it. To make long story short it was a bad ground. I took the plastic back, sides, and front off. There was a green ground (main ground) and Green/yellow ground (fan ground) on the front coil with a bunch of rust. Removed the grounds connected them both together and cleaned the surface area and used a new stainless screw nut and screw to remount the wires to evaporator coil. Everything started working fine after that and I put it back together. Good Luck

We just bought the DE45EJ. We removed it from the box and plugged it in....nothing. No lights, no beeps, no hint of life. The power source is good. The room temperature is normal. The bucket isn't full...

If you just purchased and it won't turn ON, don't waste time trying to fix the unit. Return it to the place of purchase for a replacement unit or a refund.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My GE basement dehumidifier is overheating. The bucket still collects water and the fan works, but the unit is putting out alot of heat. My dad is visiting and has taken the whole thing apart. Any...

Yes, the first suggestion is I hope your dad can get it back together without any parts left over (LOL). Over heating is generally caused by an clogged or dirty air intake filter. Simply removing it and vacuuming it or if it's really dirty, washing it in warm water and mild dish washing liquid will clean it. Rinse it thoroughly, shake off excess water and allow to dry completely. Never operate the unit without the filter in place. Doing so, can damage the unit.

Getting back to the heat for a moment and where you're using your dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers do generate heat, it's not abnormal. Operating it in a basement can cause it to over heat. This happens because the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level. Dehumidifiers struggle in temperatures below 65 degrees F (unless you have a Low temp unit, designed for basement applications). Raising the unit up off the floor, on to a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that an handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water, will generally resolve the problem.
Actually, a basement application , higher is better.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

COMES ON BUT WON'T STAY ON

On dehumidifiers there are typically two sensors/switches that shut them off:

  1. One for when the drawer is removed; and
  2. One for when the drawer is full.
I would inspect those sensors/switches to see if they are being inadvertantly activated.

Help for old kenmore dehumidifier

Hello Sandy,
On mine, the filter is in the front. Behind the grill. To remove it, you have to remove the bucket first. Then you can see two tabs sticking down that say "Filter Front". You can reach your fingers up & behind it, grab the lip, and pull straight down. For me it requires more force than expected. With the filter out, put the bucket back in and turn it on. Make sure that there is air blowing out the back to verify that the fan still works. I hope this helps.
