Whilst watching my tv it just suddenly lost power and now won't respond to anything,Im an electrician (not tv's) so decided to try and find the fault,Couldn't find anything,however there are a few little lcd lights on one of the boards,the 1st one is lit and says CTR above it.Please can you explain what these lcd's lights mean,I think the light explains the fault.THANK YOU Alan O'Callaghan

Do you have anti-virus software installed? If not, you may be infected, and your system is being used by the virus to send out spam e-mails.

try to bypass the starter motor see the diagram attached.
If there are not function, test the ignition coil+PCM+BCM, etc any part can be faulty. see the diagram, get another information from another scanner repair shop.

is this happened either watching a tv channel or even watching dvd movies?. and then does the display only white screen or a totally black screen?.

Without the model number, there is little I can suggest. Can you post that please? Also, are there any indications of an attempt to start? Standby light, blinking anything?

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

My AKAI PDP5016H 50" plasma TV turned off suddenly and wouldn't come back on. When it happened we heard a "Fizz" or "Pop" sound. I took it apart looking for a bad capacitor or obviously fried component. When powered on, not even the standby light would come on. When I couldn't find anything wrong I called my electrician neighbor who looked at it with the power connected and started looking at the fuses and started jiggling cables.

When he jiggled one of the cables, the TV came on! It was a bad cable connector on a power supply board. Look at the photos to see the problem:

The circled area is the problem board and on the second photo the arrow points to the power connector that was bad.

Disconnect the bad cable and find a connector that is identical (try RadioShack) and replace it.

Now I hate to tell you that the solution was to open up the back of my TV, connect the power, turn on the power switch, and start jiggling cables - But it was! You may get yourself electrocuted or worse by doing this, so BE CAREFUL!

Here's a clue: on the bad connector on my TV the connector itself had become discolored brown as if it had been cooked or something. Once the my electrician buddy jiggled that cable the LEDs on the main power board came on and the TV made it's characteristic "coming on" noise. In your instance it may be a fried cap or a lot of other things. Keep an eye out for anything that looks out of place or funky.

My LG tv has suddenly got a problem with the picture. Whilst watching the tv with no problems at all, the picture was suddenly reduced to a thin vertical line down the centre of the screen and an awful smell seemed to come from the tv There is a short ckt in your tv in horl. section. 1 isolate power from horizontal section. 2 check for normal output from power supply. 3 check parts in horl output section a hor.output transistor b diode & cap in h/output trnsformerckt. c check for print. d if all are ok check for eht transformer. e if every thing becomes then reconnect hor output section supply. f put on the set.
