A little explanation first- this model (as do most Samsung DLP sets) will try 3 times to get the lamp lit before the microprocessor will give up and then the 3 lites on the front will blink indicating a LAMP failure. This process takes about 1 to 2 minutes. In order of probabilty, the failures are:
1) A faulty lamp and/or ballast. REPLACE LAMP AND/OR BALLAST
However, a faulty lamp and/or ballast are not the only things that will give this blink code-
2) If the color wheel has a bad bearing and turns too slow or not at all, the microprocessor WILL NOT let the lamp light, and then give a LAMP blink code. A bad color wheel will normally have some sort of abnormal sound- a low growl or high pitched whine is common. REPLACE COLOR WHEEL
3) ALSO, if the microprocessor (on the DMD board) in its color wheel rotation detection or processing fails, once again the lamp is prevented from coming on and you get a LAMP blink code. REPLACE DMD BOARD
IF THE SET EVER COMES ON WITH A PICTURE for even a fraction of a second or though it takes many tries, the lamp and ballast are good. The problem must be either the color wheel or DMD board.
here is something else you can try.
This is a common problem with the Samsung sets and I followed the advice I found online and believed it solved the problem. Remove the lamp cover in the rear of the TV (usually held on by one screw). There is a thermal cut off switch that is activated by the depressing of it by the cover. Factory installation for some reason was not done properly and the switch would not be fully depressed causing the set to shut off. After removing the cover, relace it by seatng the bottom of the cover first to depress the switch and tilting the top of the cover in to close it. Replace the screw &you are done. My set shut itself off for 8 Months before I found this fix. It hasn't shut off since. Good Luck

There is a fualty capacitor in the power supply or high voltage flyback is bad. You can test power from power supply to main circuit board and also power to flyback with a voltmeter.

After the first time it shuts off, the tv plays for another hour and a half before it shuts off again, is this characteristic of your problem?
I had the same problem, the tv would turn on with a picture for a brief moment then shut off and blink the red temp light. I replaced the ballast and it worked perfectly for about 5 hours then all of a sudden the picture was lost. Now the tv turnson, the fans are going, the lamp lights up but I do not get a picture. It tries this 3 times then shuts down flashing all three lights. What else could have gone wrong?
