Laptop screen does not come on after last reboot. sounds indicate that the laptop rebooted though

A ticking sound is usually a major indicator that your Hard Drive is / has gone out. I would look at replacing your Hard Drive. If it is a bad Hard Drive it would lock your system up bad enough to have to remove the battery to shut down the system.

Oh dear sounds like hard drive failure. When the computer cannot find instructions to load am operating system it asks for them. I think your computer hard disk is given up the ghost which I'd where it would normally load the boot information. The boot information is the operating system like Windows. There are ways to check the hard disk I do hope you had back ups though.

Sounds like a nasty virus. The only way to fix that would be to do a totatl reinstall of the operating system. When you do that though everything on the computer will be erased unless you hook the hard drive up to another computer and extract whatever you want to save.

I would not really recommend a format if the issue with your machine is hang. You can try though to just reset the machine to its original settings. Here's how it works:

1. Reboot, and repeatedly press F10 at the HP logo until the recovery screen appears.
2. When the recovery screen appears, press "Next" and then "Yes" to perform a non-destructive recovery (all data saved). After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

Or to perform a destructive recovery, (***This will erase all your unsaved data!***)
Click "Advanced" and then "Yes".
After the recovery is finished, the laptop will reboot.

Or
Reboot, and repeatedly press F11. Follow on screen prompts.

It sounds like you have automatically reboot on error turned on which is Windows defualt. (dumb idea Microsoft). When you get the black and white screen that gives you several options to start your computer, one will be to turn off automatic restart.

Your computer will boot and you will get an blue error screen. That error will help you determine what is broken.

An alternative is to try last known good configuration, but I've never had much luck with that option.

Remove the battery and disconnect the power adapter for about a minute.

connect only the AC then boot it back up. If you can see the Compaq splash screen and still unable to load Windows, re install OS.

If you could not see the splash screen, too bad it could be a motherboard issue,

Sounds to me like the new motherboard is bad too

The last row of icons which is the bottom row with Phone iPod etc?
It sounds as though your digitizer is bad, the iphone digitizer is delicate and seems often goes bad.
does your unlock screen work?
the bottom off the screen handles the unlock and bottom icons.
if your unlock switch works then you may just have a software problem going on.
reboot your phone by pressing and holding the power and home buttons until the apple appears.
when it reboots see if it works properly, if not you may have a bad digitizer.
is your iphone a 2G or a 3G?

Sounds like a bad hard drive. You can try using a live linux cd like Knoppix or Ubuntu

Ubuntu is easier for most.

That way you'll know whether it's the hard drive or another issue with the laptop.

I think your laptop might be stuck in SUSPEND mode. Try unplugging the power and removing the battery and waiting five minutes, and then plugging it back in. If this does not work, try holding down the power button for ten seconds at a time and rebooting.
