What EXACTLY is it doing that you are trying to get rid of? What EXACTLY does it do when you reboot? It is interesting that the same problem never ever seems to go away

Freetek suggested booting to Safe Mode and using Restore function; did a restore to earlier than when problem started, and it worked! However, the nesxt day when I started the laptop again, it returned to the Desktop with no icons or taskbar, causing me to have to remove battery to shut down system. Tried a second Restore to a same checkpoint...would not allow me to re-use that previously used checkpoint, so went one week further back. Did not work and all laptop will do is boot top Desktop with no icons or taskbar and I have to remove the battery to turn it off.

My toshiba Satellite M45-S265 freezes up

  • Hi, this freezing of the Computer all of a sudden can be the cause of a number of things; first have you "downloaded any new Software, Toolbars, or changed any Programs? Next check to see "How much Memory is available to you." Go to and open the Computer Properties, if there is (more Used Space than there is Free Space) than "I suggest you do a [Disk Clean-Up] from the same location. Next, when was the "Last time you preform a "Defragmentation of the files, this can slow down the Computer's performance aswell." Backing up your Data and Files is another way to free-up space; this can be perform by (Sheduling Tasks), go to the "Control Panel.' for this task. If any of these things do not apply, then the next thing I suggest is to "perform a System Restore," this will restore your computer hopefully, back to a Time or Date prior to the problem beginning. The [System Restore] can be performed from the Control Panel. "If this information to a solution was of help, rating it is appreciated, thanks

My laptop's (Toshiba Satellite A105-S361)desktop doesn't bring the desktop icons and the task bar after I loaded AVG 9 antivirus software. Why is that? Would you mind give me a solution, pls?

The desktop icons and the task bar would generally dissappear if you have a virus on the PC. However, sometimes improper software installations may cause undesired results like we have right now. Instead of trying uninstalling anything, try restoring the system to a previous point using system restore.

Satellite A85 running XP Home...boots to desktop theme, but no icons, start button, or taskbar Don't want to use my Restore disk as it will erase the HDD and I'll lose everything. Suggestions?

Try booting to the Safe mode; this will load Win but with minimal junk loaded. You can access the menu to choose boot mode by turning on power and immediately start tapping the F8 (sometimes F5 instead) key. You should get a short text menu with the possibilities listed. If you can make it that far, open the Start menu, choose 'Run.' Enter:
rstrui.exe
click 'OK.'
This starts the restore routine and, if you haven't had it turned off, you can restore your system back to a calendar date (not too recent, choose a couple of days back) when it was still working.
You will lose no work other than Win and AV updates that have occurred since that date.
This will often make everything OK again; with the reminder that it IS Windows.
Good luck-

Problem running the restore disk for Toshiba A85-S107

I have the same model and i just reformatted the hard drive with the original restore disk and it does loop around several times. That is the way it is suppose to do on this particular restore disk. So don't be afraid if it goes around several times because it is doing different tasks each time it loops.
