If you've tried the normal reset (hold bottom right corner of the touch screen while powering on) and that has not worked, it is time to talk to Garmin.

Hopefully, your unit is still supported and they can repair it.

If your unit is out of warranty or no longer supported, the ultimate "hard-reset" is to open the unit and physically disconnect the battery lead from the circuit board. There are videos on You-Tube.

My Nuvi 1340 screen went bright white when turned on last week - no supported - now in the bin!

The unit should not get warm, unless the battery was fully discharged or maybe shorted out. Most likely a part has failed on the main board.

I spoke to Garmin Support about this issue. There are 2 settings for contrast on the nuvi 1300. You need to set the contrast while it is plugged into the vehicle, and also while it is unplugged from the vehicle. The reason for the 2 settings is to save the charge of the battery while it is not plugged into the vehicle or power source.

I connected the unit to the car charger instead of the USB charger and then held down the reset for 10-15 seconds, after which the system would show the computer connection on the charger and then boot up when not on the charger.

If you keep holding the button down it will go past the pre-boot mode and you'll eventually come to the calibration screen. Please see this link for more info:

Your only reasonable solutions are:

1) Send it back to Garmin for repair, which will probably cost you more than the unit is worth, or...

2) Check CraigsList or other places for good deals. The prices on these things have been in nose-dive mode for months and you're liable to find a very good deal for very little money. (I just bought a StreetPilot C330 for $50 from CraigsList last week.)

My nuvi 250 which was bought at the same time didn't even give any announcements ahead. It would just say "turn right" when it was almost too late (and sometimes it was even too late). I didn't even know it was supposed to do that although I wished it would because I had seen this feature on a Tom Tom.  Yesterday I did a software update and now it gives the warnings in advance. how can i get updates downloaded onto my garmin nuvi 200 series,i have it connected to pc but nothing is downloading,new roads,places,construction ect.

my nuvi was working great til last week when for some reason it would not load maps, get stuck on the first screen and then just shut down.
