My son is off to college and just bought a new Polaroid A330 camera for one of his classes. He took his first set of pics and when he connects the camera to the laptop the laptop does not recognize the device. can you give any help?

    PC: Lenova T41
    OS: XP Pro
laptop has no SD port so my only options are to use a USB cable.
the pics do show up on the camera
There is no software. The cd that came with the camera mentioend that on MS 2000 or new a driver is not needed. The driver is only for windows 98 and ME (I think).
The camera does have a slot for a memory card but he isn't using one - yet.

What operating system on the laptop? Did the camera come with any software? Does it have a removable memory card and have you tried plugging directly into the laptop(if it has a sd port)? Do the pics show as being in the camera?

Please install required software from the CD which you must have got with the camera package.

Software and drivers are very important on a computer to recognize a hardware.

All the best.

You are right, it must not need drivers for XP, but drivers might help your computer recognize the camera.

Install the software and then try connecting the camera to laptop.

many ideas! But they all lead to the bank! you either repair ( expensive) or throw it in the bin. You could try a claim on your insurance. But it would depend on the excess you might have to pay to justify the value of a repair

SOURCE: I have a Polaroid a330 and just bought a 2GB sd

first try to see if the card is not locked from the side ..It has a little button that locks it ...after that insert the card into a computer with a card reader ..and format it in Fat mode...by opening my computer folder...right click on the removable storage device ...and choose format ...when it opens choose Fat ..and quick format ..than OK ..this will format it for the first time ..and after that isert it in the camera and see if it is seen ..

if the format card is not available now..(to format it in the camera again and be sure it is the right way and make the folders fro storage ) ..
goto storage feature in the main menu ..and choose to store in teh card ..in tis moment will prompt you to format ...or ..just choose a picture from the camera memory in the view mode..and options ..and try to move it in the card ..if it is not proper formatted will ask you to format it ..and give you the possibility to make it right the way by asking you if you want to format it now...choose ok..and that's all..But I suspect that if you unlock it ..and format it in a computer will work like a charm ...

I moved recently, and I also bought a new computer...Long story short I can not find my down load disk,to install my pics onto my new computer...Is there a place i can purchase a new disk to upload...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Lcd screen stuck in usb mode?

Try removing batteries and card and leaving them out for a while to allow camera settings to default.
Replace batteries only and see if you get "Card Error" message.
If you get this, then try again with card fitted
Check firmware version

Possibly card storage too big. Upgrade firmware to version 1.77

If you have no user manual there is a PDF version available to download here:

http://www.fujifilm.co.uk/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/legacy-cameras/finepix-a330-zoom/Support

All the error messages are given in the manual with possible solutions.

Formatting Type M XD Card for A330

I just solved the same problem - it took a while. The original A330 camera was NOT set up to use with newer M type XD cards. But there IS a fix. You need to update the camera's "firmware". Go to:

http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/index.html

The scroll down to Firmware and find the A330 one. Download it to your computer's harddrive. Save it in a folder of its own.

Then EXTRACT the FinePix 330 file of about 604 KB that you will find in your new folder (do that by clicking it). It will produce a new file called FPUPDATE, a DAT file of about 1857 KB. LEave that.

Now either stick the old XD card into your computer (if it has an XD slot), or a Card Reader connected to your computer, or connect your camera with the old card to the USB port.

Once your computer recognizes the old XD card, just COPY the FPUPDATE file right onto the XD card by dragging it over.

Then insert the old XD card back into the camera (or disconnect the camera from the USB, turn it off).

Now here's the key: MAke sure your batteries are good. Turn on the camera WHILE HOLDING DOWN the DISPLAY/BACK button.

You will get a screen that says FIRMWARE UPDATE. Accept it, let it load, and it will upgrade to Version 1.77 that accepts M-XD cards!

Then put in the new card. Then FORMAT it by using the MENU screen on the camera.

Once you do that it will WORK (it took me 2 days to figure this out!!!!!). Good thing this is just a back up camera for me!

Uji fine pix a 340 card not initialised

Using an A330 - turn on the menu... Burrow down to the set-up menu.  Then choose "format".
I don't know how similar your menus and buttons are to my A330 - but this should be a good starting point.
