Lcd screen stuck in usb mode?

I just bought a FinePix A330 from an individual and bought a brand new Olympus 1GB xD picture card, put newly charged batteries in, and when I turn the camera on, the LCD screen displays USB in top left corner and DSC in center of screen. It won't let me go to menu, take pictures or anything. It's stuck.....what is wrong?

    I have this same issue.

The camera comes up with the same screen regardless of whether or not there's actually a card in the camera.

Leaving the batteries out for awhile and either changing them or using the same ones, gives the same screen.

The computer detects the camera when the cable is plugged in and you can copy the images off but the same screen is stuck on the camera regardless of whether or not it's plugged in (meaning you can't take or view pictures from the camera itself)

Try removing batteries and card and leaving them out for a while to allow camera settings to default.
Replace batteries only and see if you get "Card Error" message.
If you get this, then try again with card fitted
Check firmware version

Possibly card storage too big. Upgrade firmware to version 1.77

If you have no user manual there is a PDF version available to download here:

http://www.fujifilm.co.uk/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/legacy-cameras/finepix-a330-zoom/Support

All the error messages are given in the manual with possible solutions.

I have just bought a second-hand A330 fujifilm digital camera and was wondering what memory card I need to buy for it as I am aware that some do not work in these cameras?

Your camera takes an xD picture card. I think 128mb is the maximum the camera can take. Stick with the major brands such as Lexar or Sandisk.

HOW DO I INITIALIZED MY OLYMPUS XD M+ 1GB ON MY A330

A330 needs to be upgraded with new firmware before it can use M or H cards.
The firmware is available here:

Read the instructions before updating.

Card not initialized error! please help me

Olympus cards don't always work in Fuji cameras. Maybe not at all in older Fuji's.
You could try and update the firm ware in your camera and see if that does anything (if it's available on the Fuji website) Go to the service and support section on the web site and you may be lucky

"error write" memory card XD M 1Gb

You may want to check Fuji's website and make sure that the 1gb card is compatible for the camera. You may need to have the firmware in the camera upgraded to support storage that large.

Formatting Type M XD Card for A330

I just solved the same problem - it took a while. The original A330 camera was NOT set up to use with newer M type XD cards. But there IS a fix. You need to update the camera's "firmware". Go to:

http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/index.html

The scroll down to Firmware and find the A330 one. Download it to your computer's harddrive. Save it in a folder of its own.

Then EXTRACT the FinePix 330 file of about 604 KB that you will find in your new folder (do that by clicking it). It will produce a new file called FPUPDATE, a DAT file of about 1857 KB. LEave that.

Now either stick the old XD card into your computer (if it has an XD slot), or a Card Reader connected to your computer, or connect your camera with the old card to the USB port.

Once your computer recognizes the old XD card, just COPY the FPUPDATE file right onto the XD card by dragging it over.

Then insert the old XD card back into the camera (or disconnect the camera from the USB, turn it off).

Now here's the key: MAke sure your batteries are good. Turn on the camera WHILE HOLDING DOWN the DISPLAY/BACK button.

You will get a screen that says FIRMWARE UPDATE. Accept it, let it load, and it will upgrade to Version 1.77 that accepts M-XD cards!

Then put in the new card. Then FORMAT it by using the MENU screen on the camera.

Once you do that it will WORK (it took me 2 days to figure this out!!!!!). Good thing this is just a back up camera for me!

Help

What type of memory card are you using?  Is this a new problem since you've started using a new memory card?
The A330 can't use some of the newer types of xD cards.  These have letters before the file size like "H512mb" or "M1gb".
You can only use plain xD cards with no letter in front, like the small 8mb or 16mb card that came with the camera. Or, you can download a firmware upgrade to us type "M" xD cards. Read about that here: http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/a330/fupd.html

Or, if a new memory card is likely not the problem, you could try re-initializing the card.  Make sure to copy any pictures from the card onto your computer first.  Re-initializing will erase all data from the card.
In the Menu, use the right button to go over to "Set".  Arrow up to choose "Set-up".  Then arrow down on the "1" screen to "Format".  It will step you through reformatting the card.
Hope this helps, -Kelly.
