Well my lights did not go out either one day and also melted the inside of the refrigerator. Apparently this is becoming a common problem in so much that LG has already developed a soultion. But LG will not assist in paying for the solution. I had to contact Sears for the repair even thought the refrigerator was purchased at Home Depot. The soultion is a new wiring harnest and a sensor that will cost approximately $412.00 dollars ( parts and labor to repair).
I believe this should be a recall due tot he fire hazzard.
Even though I have found a statement (I think it was in the LG troubleshooting FAQS on line) that the lights will shut off after a period of time to prevent the problem you encountered, I have heard of this problem enough times to worry about it. So I replaced the 60 watt bulbs in my refrigerator with 25 watt appliance bulbs just in case. They provide more than enough light and do not get as hot when on. It took a while to find them. They are made by Philips and were at Home Depot but not always in stock.
