After charging the phone, there is no dial tone. The phone jack works. The battery is brand new.

Request a cable tech to check phone service. No dial tone could be their problem

Sounds like your phone has a short. If you see the message "line in use" call your number, is it busy, now unplug your phone and call your number again, is it ringing? Indicates a short, possibly in your equipment. As for message " no line" is the electric connected to the phone and did you check for dial tone in tat particular jack with a known, working phone first...just to make sure there's dt @ the jack. yes do a full reset and reprogram for new phone number and all settings when you move phones

You need the specific battery pack: 5-2814 for the handset. This is a 850 mAh Nickel Metal hydride battery.

When I see a cordless phone that doesn't ring, the first thing I recommend checking is the phone jack and line itself with a second phone. I prefer to use a corded handset with a new phone cord to check for dial tone. If no dial tone at the jack, check for dial tone at the service entry box. If you have no dial tone at the service box, contact your provider. If it's only a problem at the jack, you will need to check your inside wiring.

To check the base, try a new cable (RJ-11) (double check the power as well).

To check the handset, first make sure the handset is fully charged (16 hours) and that the battery is fully installed. Does the handset beep when the Talk button is pressed? Next check that the handset ringer software is on. With the phone off (not in the talk mode), press the Mute/menu OK button. Use the Caller ID/volume (up/down) buttons to get to the Handset setup menu. Press the Mute/Menu OK button to access the menu. Use these buttons to check the Ringer Volume (should be on) and Ringer Tone. Press Mute/Menu OK to save the settings at each sub-menu. Check that the Do Not Disturb function is not on - this toggles with the Do Not Disturb button and should be noted on the handset screen when on.

If you have multiple extensions on the phone line, try unplugging some of them.

I would contact your phone provider. It could be a coinceidence that the dial tone stopped working.
DSL does not require dial tone to work.

I disconnected the RadioShack phone/answering machine and plugged in an old phone. At first I didn't get a dial tone, but in a minute or so, I did get one. I doublechecked the connection with the incoming phone jack. (I had checked this before, but didn't see anything wrong.) Again, I didn't see anything wrong, but maybe that did it. Also, when I disconnected the RadioShack from the incoming phone jack, I disconnected from my computer (I used to have dial-up connection).

Don't know which of my actions worked, but now I have dial tone on Radio Shack.

This is not a problem..You will need keep your phone plugged into the power jack and the powe switch must be on.Then connect the phone line..thats all the phone will register itself and start working..

check the power or battery of this phone. and make sure the tel jack is wire up for 2 line phone,if you using 2 dial tone from carrier.
