KENWOOD KR-V8030 SPECS

I have had this exact Receiver and this is taken right from the specs. in the manual, "120 watts per channel RMS" at 8 ohms - this is in Stereo mode (2 speakers) only". When surround sound is used, "75 watts RMS for Front and Center speakers and 15 watts RMS for rear (surround) speakers. From experience, the Stereo only mode is definitely stronger/louder than when switching to Surround. Most newer receivers are the same wattage regardless of mode.

The audio keeps going in and out and cuts off. Also I have other devices going into aux in but it doesn't show 5.1 surround it only shows the front L, Front R, and CT speakers in stereo. I want everything...

If you are playing a source that is Stereo such as FM Radio or a CD the sound will not use all 5.1 speakers unless you enable the correct Surround Mode. On the remote there is a button on the lower right of the remote that says SURROUND. You can toggle through the various surround modes with this button the mode you want is Dolby Pro Logic The Pro Logic mode uses the built-in circuit to steer the Left, Center, Right and Mono Surround channel audio signals and uses all five speakers to play both stereo and Dolby Pro Logic program source, such as TV and VCR. You can use this mode with any stereo program source (such as VCR/TV) to enjoy multi-channel sound experience.

5.1 Surround sound not working

Maybe the surround processor is having a bad day... My kenwood would do similar and a reset was necessary to correct. Have you tried resetting the system? On my Sony STR DE 597 this is accomplished by powering off. Then while holding the 2 channel button down (front face plate) power on. A reset message is displayed. Your model may be similar but check your manual or download the PDF of the manual from Sony's support website. Hope this helps

Dolby digital

Dolby Digital includes several similar technologies, which include Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital Live, Dolby Digital Surround EX, Dolby Digital Plus, and Dolby TrueHD.

Dolby Digital, or AC-3, is the common version containing up to six discrete channels of sound. The most elaborate mode in common usage involves five channels for normal-range speakers (20 Hz – 20,000 Hz) (right front, center, left front, right rear and left rear) and one channel (20 Hz – 120 Hz allotted audio) for the subwoofer driven low-frequency effects. Mono and stereo modes are also supported. AC-3 supports audio sample-rates up to 48 kHz. Batman Returns was the first film to use Dolby Digital technology when it premiered in theaters in Summer 1992. The Laserdisc version of Clear and Present Danger featured the first Home theater Dolby Digital mix in 1995.

This codec has several aliases, which are different names for the same codec:

* Dolby Digital (promotional name, not accepted by the ATSC)
* DD (an abbreviation of above, often combined with channel count: DD 5.1)
* Dolby Surround AC-3 Digital (second promotional name, as seen on early film releases and on home audio equipment until about 1995/1996)
* Dolby Stereo Digital (first promotional name, as seen on early releases, also seen on True Lies LaserDisc)
* Dolby SR-Digital (when the recording incorporates a Dolby SR-format recording for compatibility)
* SR-D (an abbreviation of above)
* Audio Coding 3 (relates to the bitstream format of Dolby Digital)
* AC-3 (an abbreviation of above)
* Audio Codec 3, Advanced Codec 3, Acoustic Coder 3 (These are backronyms. However, Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding 3, or ATRAC3, is a separate format developed by Sony)
* ATSC A/52 (name of the standard, current version is A/52 Rev. B)

Reciever only allows 2 channels(speakers) at a time.

I had this problem too. Finally, after using the MCACC setup and making sure all the speakers worked, I found I had to set the source to FM, TV or whatever from the remote control and set the mode to advanced surround sound using the front panal button on the upper right. Had to fool with them a lot. Good luck.

STG DR510 no sound on left front channel

Can I assume the calibration procedure also didn't work for the Front left channel? (It's not a "surround" if it's in the front). Switch the receiver to Stereo mode to eliminate any DSP actions. Tune an FM station to eliminate any external device or cable issues. What do you hear from the two Front speakers?

OK? Select a DSP surround mode. Check all modes. What happens?

If the channel goes dead using some or all DSP modes there's probably something wrong with the processor. If they all work...

Isolate the source that exhibits the problem.

It was a bad left channel cable somewhere, wasn't it?

Rear Surround speakers

Best thing to do is to put the unit in 5 channel or 7 channel mode. That will send left ch information to the front left and rear left speakers ( both will get the same information). Ditto with the right channel. The center channel will get centre channel information.

If all the speakers work, go out and rent TOP GUN. ( yes its old), BUT there are a few extreme scenes , one of which is the elevator scene, where the camera changes perspective and suddenly you hear the elevator doors close BEHIND you through only the surround speakers ( have the unit in surround mode....NOT 5 or 7 ch mode ). If this works ok, then you have no problems.

Remember, surround sound only produces information in the rear channels when the information is there. To check out the digital and DTS decoders, get an action flick. If you can, get a remote too, because that will unlock many features about the receiver that you cant get to with the front panel controls. Also go to yamaha and download the owners manual ( its free !!).....that should get you going.....

best of luck...
