Need to adjust front headllight Somebody ran into my front bumper and cracked the grill and moved the headlight out of adjustment

Removing front bumper is easy. Look under the bumper. There are bolts holding it to the frame. Unscrew these and bumper will come of lose. Screw new bumper same way you unscrew the old one. Remember don't titen screws right away. You have to adjust new bamper so visibly floats with fenders and front grill. Than titen up bolts.

Yes, the bumper has to come off to remove the headlights.
There will be a number of smaller screws around the outside of the bumper, like in the wheel well and under the car by the splash shield under the engine. All of those will need to be removed. Then you need to remove the turn signal lights in the front bumper with a long phillips screwdriver. Take a flashlight and look inside the bumper through the lower grill at the side of the turn signal housing. You'll see a small hole for the screwdriver. The screw doesn't need to come all the way out to remove the light.
Remove turn signal housing on both sides and look back at the frame crossmember behind the bumper. There are two large bolts on each side holding the bumper on. You'll need some extensions to reach them. Once those are out, you'll be able to tell if you missed any smaller screws/clips. Carefully move the bumper cover out of the way to have access to the headlight mounting points.

yes the front bumper needs to come off see instructions below

1. Remove the front bumper and front bumper upper beam.
2. Disconnect the connectors.
3. Remove the four mounting bolts, then remove the headlight assembly.
4. Install the headlight in the reverse order of removal.
5. After replacement, adjust the headlights to local requirements

Headllight adjusters are broken. Replacements can be purchased at most auot parts stores.

needed: flathead screwdriver. 10mm socket and wrench, and about 15minutes


You remove the three clips on the grill with a flathead screwdriver. then just pull straight up on the grill to remove. This will expose the bolts for removal of your front bumper. there are also screws on either side of the wheelwell where the bumper meets the fender....all of these are 10mm... then pull out one side of the bumper and the whole thing will come off easily. Also if you have the factory foglights you will need to remove the harnesses from the lights before removing the bumper.....Once the bumper is off the 4 bolts for the headlight are right there for you to see....one under the grillside one one the fender side and 2 on top all of which are 10mm as well....once the headlight is out remove the wiring harnesses and reinstall the new light in exctly the same way but reversed....hope this helps

I had wrongly heard that the bumper and grill had to be removed to access the headlight assemblies (i.e the lens and relfectors).
ALL that is needed is some patience and a small pry bar or very large screwdriver.
The light assembly is Pulled out of three Ball Sockets that mate with 6-8 in long adjusting screws.
To remove the light assembly, it Helps if the grill is removed (2 phillips screws on top of grill and 2 inside the upper left and right hand sides).
Then, with your fingers, pull sharply on the side of the lens assembly, often just popping 2 of the 3 ball sockets. Now, use a large flat blade screwdriver to wedge into the side or back of the assembly and use it as a lever to pry the assembly forward, popping the remaining socket.

Using a counterclockwise (normal reverse) rotation, remove the retaining ring for the bulb and carefully remove the bulb - laying it down onto a CLEAN paper towel, rag, or insert it into the cuff of a dry clean rubber/vinyl glove. To replace the bulb at this time (a good idea!), use a medium size flatblade screwdriver to remove the blue retainer prongs from the bulb socket and pry off off the male plug. Cover the new bulb in a paper towel or glove and place the retaining Collar onto the back of the bulb, with the Beveled side facing back (the engine compartment). Plug the male connector onto the back of the bulb. Lay the bulb down on a clean paper or glove.

To replace the housing/assembly, press the bulb into the back of the assembly and rotate the collar clockwise one-quarter turn. Make sure it is Tight!

Now, peering through the cracks on the sides, align the sockets with the screws you can see and press the housing forward, hopefully snapping one or more sockets. Usually some of the sockets will Not reconnect immediately. Using your fist or a small Rubber/plastic mallet, smack the front of the lens until you can hear or feel the sockets snap into place.
Dont be too hard or you may crack the lens!

Aim/Adjust the lense using small Torx driver. There are two - the one inside, near the grill adjusts the Toe-In/Out (left to right movement) and the outer adjusts the Vertical (up/down).

You have to remove the front bumper and grill etc

There are 5 bolts holding the headlight assembly in place. 2 at the top and 3 underneath.

Remove the plastic cross piece by prising out the clips and then the grille clips too then unbolt the bolts eithr side under the wheel arch. The bumper is still fastened using cips. Pull the bumper forward to unclip.

To replace the headlight bulb on your cts, it is kinda a pain. You pretty much have to take the whole front bumper off. First remove all of the push pins that hold the air deflector on the bottom. Next remove the pushpins that hold the grille to the tie bar. Now remove the front fascia extension. Remove the bolts that hold the bumper to the fender. Once all the bolts are out that hold the bumper on, you gently pull out on the bumper, but be careful not to crack it. If the windshield washer hoses are connected to it then you need to disconnect them, but you may want to plug the line so you don't loose all the washer fluid. Next there are two bolts and a nut that you remove to take the headlight out, and remove the connectors that go to it.

I know your frustration! I cannot believe the complexity of changing the headlights. Chevy has tried to make this a dealer item only just to change a headlight bulb. I will try to explain the procedure unfortunately I do not have photos. First you will need to remove the wheel well liner (two bolts and two plastic push pins). Pull the wheel well housing back (you will need to turn the wheel/tire to gain access) and using a 7mm socket remove the plastic support piece that holds the bumper in place (two bolts). Pull the corner of the bumper down until you can locate the bottom bracket of the headlight assembly that is held by a 10mm bolt. Remove it. (Oh did I mention this is a two person job!) Next move to the front of the vehicle (hood up) and remove all the 10mm bolts holding the upper part of the grill (I think there are eight of them). Now remove the obvious top two bolts on the headlight assembly! With two people - one to work the headlight assembly and one to push down the bumper and pull out on the grill assemble, slowly and carefully pull the headlight assembly straight forward. You will need to be mindfully of the small tabs on the headlight assembly that like to get caught on bumper/grill. If you are just replacing the bulb, you should be able to move the headlight assemble far enough forward to gain access to the bulbs without totally removing the headlight assembly. What a ***** job! SHAME on GM.
