My printer keeps printing the test page every time it's switched on

My HP PSC 1315 prints the test page every time I switch it on. The only way to stop it is to press Cancel every time right after switching on the printer. It used to be fine and only print the test page on demand, but after the ink was changed it does it every time. I have a HP 1500 and I am having the same problem.  I tried the solutions suggested by others without success.  I am wondering if it's because I bought a compatible cartridge, i.e. not a genuine HP one.

My HP1500 does the same thing - continues to print the alignment page every time it is turned on. I have tried removing and re-installing the print cartridge and even disconnecting/reconnecting the printer - nothing seems to help. It IS an HP print cartridge - someone mentioned the problem could be caused by an unathentic cartridge (that is not the case here).

My Hp1500 does the same thing with a Hp cartridge. I have tried unplugging it, re-installing the drivers and aligning print heads etc. nothing works.

has anyone found the solution? i also have this problem!!!!

    thx

  • lizardza Dec 24, 2007

Yes, this is the solution. As it's about a month since I posted the problem, I had managed to work it out. Agree that it's a really stupid feature but I wonder if HP are listening???

  • lizardza Jan 03, 2008

I think this is not a solution but a further question. Unnisa must scroll up to the solution offered by tsedawa above.

Take the test page ( also called : alighnment page ) that
always prints when you switch on the printer and place it face down in
    the scanner.

Then press the scan button on the printer itself.
(this is the button at the bottom of all the buttons on the printer/scanner.)

Make sure that the printer scans the test page.
( sometimes you press the butoon and it doesn't scan )
( it makes a scanning noise when scanning succesfully )

Then it will stop printing the test page ( alignment page ) ever again.

I have a C3188 HP Photosmart all-in-one printer.when I replaced the B/W (genuine from Hp-no.850) I started getting the test prints every time I switched on the printer.

  • cdonnell Jan 22, 2008

I have a C3180. Every time I install a new cartridge it prints the test page which uses a lot of ink. This printer eats ink (even with fast draft on) like a starving vampire as it is. How can I get the printer not to print this page? I haven't found an answer for this yet. Help!

I have the same problem with a hp 1410. I have done the alignment page thing but when i press scan all that happens is that it scans it to HP image zone rather than scanning it a an alignment page

  • rwfletch Apr 28, 2008

My psc 1315 did the same after installing an HP cartridge. I followed the instructions that lizardza set forth and it worked perfectly afterward. Thanks for the answer to a long time trouble.

  • Mistreena May 07, 2008

I have the same problem with my HP PSC 1500. Every time it turns on it tries to print that test page. Usually I don't have paper in the printer, but for all the times I did have paper in it.... Grr..... It's wasted all
my ink, and now I have none left for printing off resumes :(
    So using
HP ink is supposed to work? I'll try that, once I get new ink, and if it persists I'll try scanning that page. I hope something will work, because it's just a waste of ink and paper! (ink especially, because it costs more!)
    Thank you for your help!

  • Chrimbo May 23, 2008

We have a HP PSC 1510 which has always done this, even with HP cartridges installed. Am trying the scan method and hopefullly this will work.

  • Anonymous May 24, 2008

The problem is not replacement cartridges (Hp1500L) as I have had the same one since new and still have the same problem, also I have the update patch installed so presumably no one is listening at HP, or if they are they don't know what to do.

  • Anonymous Jul 12, 2008

Hi I had the same problem Hp Printer 1513.

We've all been so stupid not to simply follow the instructions, instead we've sat with the problem all this time! thanks to Lizardza's solution I did this and all is fine now.

I can't believe I also had this and didn't listen/follow the steps printed on this page! Thanks also to Fixya.

  • luckylina Aug 02, 2008

My HP 1315 is over a year old and it just now started printing the test page everytime I turn it on. I went to HP website and couldn't find any help. It's good old Google that helped me to find your website. I tried lizardza's solution and it helped. It is so simple... why does HP not state that on their website? Also I had a document that got stuck on the printing queue (spelling?) and HP printer trouble shooter has too many steps to solve the problem. All I did was turn off my computer and restart and voila, it was gone. Thanks, lizardza... thanks, FixYa... thanks, Google.

after switching on hp 1410 All in one series printer, the on/resume light starts blinking indefinitely ever after inserting paper for print-out. Immediately message is flashed in monitor as align though the printer cartridges both color and black are intact. After clicking the align button, then testing page with color bar coders are printed wasting a page of print sheet. Even if closing the button -close then also the button indefinitely blinks and again the message Align is flashed for us to click the same button. Only after printing rubbish print-out, then normal document printing and copying is allowed. The problem was not in existence. But now, the problem is brought up to our notice. We don't know to restore the printer to the original status. Kindly reply.

This is a really stupid product feature on HP's part to waste ink and force people to buy more cartriges.

The Solution Provided from Hp PSC1513 is that the Printed alignment page (like test print page) face down on the scanner and press the "start Scan" button the printer scans and complets the alignment process. But In my case after that it again prints the alignment page... I think it is stupid feture, without asking to print the page every time and wasting lots of Ink.

Joshua777 Has the answer to the HP printed alignment pages. It works and thank you.Even though the url takes us back to HP it is a pPity that HP does not have the brains to include this with the printers or cartridges they sell.

The simple answer to this as stated many times here before. I have a HP PSC 1500v. Mine was doing the same thing for a few weeks, then I went back to realize that when you set the computer to align(which you can find in the control panel under printers then find yours and click on properties, then tool box, then click on align)Then you print a test page, then place it face down in the scanner, then wait about 10 seconds, then press scan. When the power light has stopped flashing, you have completed the process, and you shouldn't have any more unwanted test pages.

My hp c3150 prints a test page every time i turn it on

Do this. The next time it prints a test page, keep the same test page under the scanner and push the scan button on the c3150. This would complete the test cycle and it would not print test pages from the next time.

HP PSC 1315 Prints test page every time printer is installed

Hi Jay,
This is mike, actually the problem is that that printer has not completed the aligning process, as a result the printer is printing the test page (Alignment page) every time when you turn it ON. So, I would suggest you to let the printer prints the alignment page and check whether the printer prints the page with all colors and it printed fine, once it is done, disconnect the USB cable behind the printer and then place the alignment page on the scanner glass by facing down the printed page downwards and press the scan button. This start the alignment process and the scanning process will be completed once the ON light is stop blinking. This will complete the alignment process.

Once done try to turn off and turn on the printer and check for the result. This should resolve the issue.

However, if the issue persist, then please revert back to me. Be sure that you use the HP genuine ink cartridges, not refilled nor re-manufacture.

It automatically print a page everytime I start my hp psc 1315

Hi Siddarth

In HP PSC 1315 printer after replacing new Ink Cartridges the printer always prints Alignment test page every time you turn it ON.To resolve this problem you must complete the alignment process.

Steps

1.Turn the printer ON.
2.Once its ON, it will print the Alignment page. Place the page in the scanner bed correctly.
3.Then Press START SCAN button.
4.The power light will start blinking, wait until the power lights turns solid.
5.Now Alignment process is over.Discard the paper from scanner.
6.Turn the printer OFF and then ON, it will not print that page again.

Note:Please follow this steps every time when you replace the Cartridges.

Test printing

If you've recently changed your cartridges, the printer will try to print a test/alignment page. Note the instructions on the test page indicate what to do to complete the testing/alignment procedure.

1) Let it print.
2) Place the test page upside down on the scan plate.
3) Hit "Scan" and let it finish.

When the machine completes the scanning procedure, you'll be able to switch the printer on and off or reboot your computer without it printing the test page. By Dubbya
