Press the menu button on the nuvi, then press the system or the simulation button, and tell it the simulation off or disable. I have a older model, and it is under system menu.

the antenna is on the back of the unit. it needs to be flipped up in order for live gps tracking to work. when it is flipped down, it will only work in simulated mode.
This is cause by a broken solder connection on the headphone jack. I've repaired this problem many times. Please see this link for more info and read the section about the headphone jack:
It sounds like you have your gps plugged into your computer with the usb cable and that what you are seeing on the gps screen indicates that the gps has communicated with the computer. This is exactly what should happen. However, you cannot use your nuvi as a gps in this mode and you cannot turn it off and on.
all garmin nuvi users reset device small button on bottom then plug into computer using usb cable back up the nuvi folder in my computer,just in case, then run virus check on device`s nuvi folder when finished unplug safely , hopefully should be back to normal i have down this with 2 nuvi`s with keyboard problems and it has worked both times hope works for you regards [email protected]
Try going outside with a clear veiw of the sky, since it cant aquire a satellite its simulating the last place where you were. Try canceling the route and see if it connects with the satellite.

This indicates that the on/off switch is shorted out. You can duplicate this problem by taking a working Nuvi and keep holding down the on/off button when turning it on. It will stay in this mode until you let off on the power on/off button.
