The side steel mechanism maybe jammed or worn, or possible foreign object jammed within the mechanism. Ii will require taking the sunroof apart, unless you can free it. Possible sunroof mechanism replacement. Hopefully this helps
go to a junk yard where you can pull your own parts find a camry that is around your same year rip the headliner out and pull the complete sunroof asembly. make sure you get the wiring harness with it. Then put that in your car (will take a lot longer to put it in your car because you will have to be careful with the headliner and intereor parts. It shouldnt take you longer than about 4 hours to take out the old one and put the new one in assuming that you are mechanically inclined. this will be the most cost effective way to fix it. if you have any questions feal free to e-mail me at [email protected]. Dear cz50001: there are only a few things that you, a weekend warrior can do to diagnose and/or fix the problem on your car.
Unfortunately the newer cars get, the more complex they get.
Unfortunately, your car is one which falls in the more complex category. Your car is designed with a "BODY CONTROL MODULE". This little gem gets input from nearly every electrical component in the car including the sunroof. In terms of what you can do to check it out: The fuse box inside the car has roughly 24 fuses positioned vertically 12x12. The fuse located at the lower left side of the box is a 10A "red in color" is for the sunroof. Remove it and look through it to see if it has been burned through the center. If it has, replace it and try the sun roof. If the fuse blows again, you have a short and it would be best left to a professional.
There is another set of circumstances which can occur that will render the sunroof inoperable. If the battery is disconnected or if the sunroof motor had been disconnected, the sunroof will stop operating. To reset the sunroof memory, with the key in the on position, push and hold the sunroof tilt switch in the forward (up) position until the sunroof is fully vented (tilted up) position. It should at that point operate normally. Should those two suggestions not solve your problem, it requires either a dealership with a specialized tool called CONSULT-11 to communicate with the BCM. There are some specialty shops such as mine equipped to deal with your car as well. However, most can not address this type of problem without this diagnostic tool. Good luck.
have to use both switch to get it open
