Your phone must be jail broken and unlocked to use non AT&T sim card. Be sure you have correctly installed redsn0w and ultrasn0w unlocker. If you have recently updated your phone that will undo your jailbreak and unlock. You will need to reapply them for the version of your iPhone OS if they are available.

Is your sim brand is the same as the company you bought the iPhone from? cause iPhone is locked to some carrier you can't just use any sim with it. If you want to use any sim with it you will have to unlock it. Now try to use your friends sim that come from the same carrier you bought the iPhone. Good luck and hope this help.

I purchased an iphone 4 copy and my phone is showing can not register invalid sim problem

Your cellular provider has to have the phone you are using on file so that the network will recognize your sim card. If you have AT&T you can log onto your account and change it yourself. You can also call and simply say it won't recognize my sim card, they should be able to indicate the phone you are using and it should then register on the network.

How do i access or copy my sim contacts from the sim to the phone?

Actually, you can import contacts from SIM to iPhone with simple steps. Just follow below guide.

iPhone doesn't store contacts on the SIM card. If you want to transfer contacts between iPhones, you can use iCloud to backup or transfer content between devices. When it comes to import contacts from SIM card to iPhone, users will only need three simple steps.
  1. Remove the SIM card from the old phone, and install it on your iPhone.
  2. Your iPhone may need to reactivate. If so, connect to iTunes.
  3. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Import SIM Contacts.
  4. Wait for the import to complete.
  5. If you swapped SIM cards in step 1, remove the SIM card and replace it with your iPhone SIM card.
  6. Open Contacts and make sure that the contacts imported.

The contact information imported from a SIM card depends on how your previous phone stored information on the SIM card. For more help with importing contacts from a non-Apple phone, check the manufacturer's website, app store, or contact your carrier. After doing this, you will get the contacts in your iPhone. Transferring contacts from SIM card to iPhone is easy to be done when users have a suitable SIM card with iPhone. But if the SIM card cannot be recognized by iPhone, what should the users do to import contacts from SIM card to iPhone?

Sim not working

Hi,
The iPhone is legally intended to be used (in the US at least) only with AT&T's network. If you are using an AT&T SIM that is activated and working with AT&T service on the iPhone and it is still not recognizing it, there could be one of 2 issues here.
1. Your AT&T SIM may need replacing. To test this, you'll need access to another AT&T cellphone (any phone will do really) and simply swap out your SIM for the one in the phone. If the SIM is not recognized, then chances are pretty good your SIM is damaged. Take it to your nearest AT&T store and they will replace for you free of charge.
2. If the service does work on the second cellphone, but not your iPhone, then maybe the SIM reader on the iPhone is damaged. This is trickier because now the iPhone will need to be serviced by Apple (if it is under warranty) or replaced by AT&T (also if still under warranty).
In the event the you are using a Non-AT&T SIM with the iPhone, then the iPhone will need to be unlocked in order to recognize and use the Non-AT&T carrier's services.
The steps to this process can be found on many websites, however, if you provide me with the Model of the iPhone, size and Firmware version, I can further assist you in successfully unlocking and using your iPhone with a Non-AT&T carrier service.
