My passenger window fell off the rack and we are trying to put it back on. The inside door has two extra wires on the panel which are not connected. Are they supposed to be connected to anything inside the panel and how do I tell if I need to replace the motor on the window?
They are supposed to be connected to the motor. Does the motor run when that doors individual switch is pressed? What do the ends of wire look like, connected to something or does it have clips at ends? If motor still runs then these wires are for manipulating the rack& pulley system for operation of the window glass.........sodeep
Well if its an electric cable then it has to be connected to some electrical part, which may or may not be present currently which is why I assumed that it was the mots connection. If the motor runs when the doors individual switch is pressed or operated, then obviously the wires were not for the motor. Otherwise after fitting the glass back in the channel it s supposed to go up & down, check the mechanism which makes this movement possible. Obviously it won't be a rack-pinion type as in the early models. Thanx............................................sodeep

Did you mean cables and not wires? If they are cables, are the cables frayed? if not, there should be small metal clips on the end of each cable. the cables have detached from a pulley that is connected to the motor. The pulley is near the motor and is facing the glass(if your window is stuck in the down position). The cables twist around the pulley and have slots that the clips on the end fit into. There is also a metal plate that snaps over the pulley to keep the cables from falling off. The diameter of the pulley is approx the size of a can of pop. if you reconnect the electrical wires that control the windows (you probably disconnected them in order to remove the door) you can see the pulley, or the motor spinning. If you cant see it, just listen, if you cant hear anything its time to replace the motor. Both the pulley and the plate that snaps on it can be removed.
I am currently having the same problem but I haven’t attempted to twist the cables back on because the pulley I have is made of plastic and the threads that the cables twist into have been damaged. I did my best to explain what I could see off my car, but I don’t have any car mechanic experience. I hope this helps you figure out what you need to do…
Get the window in the track. does it go up and down. run it in short duration to make sure it tracks OK.
the wires may go to an option not installed like mirror heaters electric mirrors, extra door speaker all types of things.... Door lock...
Look to see if everything is hooked up then after you verify and run the thing a while you will say hey that doesn't work...Viola you now know where they go..
