Are you asking what a good brand is or if you need one? I don't totally understand the question
A solar charge controller is an essential part of a solar charging system. It goes between the solar panels and the battery bank where it regulates the amount of voltage and current reaching the batteries.
A solar charge controller protects your batteries by preventing an electrical overload or excessive discharging. It also optimizes the performance of your solar system.
A solar charge controller also lets you monitor the state of your system. You can check how much power the solar panel is generating or how quickly the batteries are charging or discharging.

Connect a 20amp bridge rectifier across output of solar panel to battery you can use a timer switch on it or regulator good luck

Yes, but the efficiency of solar cells is terrible. Its one thing to use free sunlught to charge the cells, its another to have to pay the electric company to do it. If you can access the batteries in the solar rig easily and they are in the correct voltage range, I think you would be better off getting a battery tender (trickle charger). Just let the van sit outside until the batteries are fully charged, then connect the battery tender to keep it fully charged.

That is correct the solar panel will charge the RV battery which is connected to an inverter. This converts the DC power to AC for the AirCon.
Testimonial: "Thanks very much. Very helpful."

Refer to the manual.
Do you have the correct setting for the Bulk load?
Open the cover and look.
Hope this tip helps.

it is possible the cont actor or relay that do the switching is bad

If you connect to solar panel for the lights to go on do the lights go out at night? If so, and the they do not light when hooked to the batteries then the batteries may have no charge and may also not be holding a charge. Put in new batteries to test.
