Sometimes these macbooks will go to sleep...appear to be off, but the white pulsing light on the front still is working... the solution if this is the case is to press and HOLD the power button for several seconds... you will hear the hard drive wind down to a stop. Then wait a couple seconds and reboot.
let me know if this gets your PBpro back up!

Hi Gurus ..My Mac Book Pro has destroyed 3 USB memory sticks so far... physical damage that no formatting soft or hard on both MAC or PC worked. It happens as soon as I stick the drive in... I read that a...

It's possible your USB slots have a lot of dust, or could be physically damaged and is causing shorts. If three USB drives have already been damaged, your best bet is to send the mac book to apple for inspection. If your warranty is up, or you're feeling adventurous, you can open the Mac Book your self and have a look at what's going on near, around, or on the USB ports.

My mac book pro keeps shutting down

Do you have all the latest software updates on your system?

Does this happen when it's plugged into the power supply?

If not, then it could be the battery. If it's an old computer, the battery might not be holding the charge very long.

Have you tried resetting the PRAM? Start with the notebook powered off, turn it on and press and hold Command-Option-P-R. Continue holding until you've heard 3 system tones. Then allow the system to boot.

See if that helps. If not, you may have a problem with your power supply, charging system or the battery. This would necessitate a call to AppleCare.

I recommend speaking to someone at an Apple store, or wherever you purchased it.

This may indicate that your battery is going bad and not holding a charge. Try inserting a different battery and see if the light stays green.

N12 and new Mac book pro with FireWire800

As long as you power the devices from the same receptacle or plug strip the MAC will be perfectely safe. Firewire and USB are fairly safe as long as you don't drive high voltage into them from failed equipment or ground loops.
