Hey if you look at poulan starter rope there is a solution posted for how to re-wrap the spring. ( it's actually pretty quick and easy to do ).

HAhaha, oh this is so funny to me cause i suffered with the same problem, you have to grip the spring with needle nose pliers and wrap it tightly back arround, gripping the new layer every revolution, it sucks i know, then VERY CAREFULLY place it back it the spring retainer
