Viewfinder and lcd non functioning

I like the XL2. It's a great camera.

The first thing that comes to mind is the connections between the viewfinder and the camera. This is going to involve some electronic troubleshooting. If you're not comfortable with modern electronics then this can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

A1 Dimage rubber eye piece for viewfinder?

I've had the same problem. You simply can't get them new, but you can salvage them from the many scrap A1's and A2's which have suffered circuit board failures. Take care as you peel it off the old camera though as it's very easy to tear. Best reglued with a few very carefully applied smears of superglue. If you want your camera to last, then afterwards use a bit of double-sided foam based sticky pad to secure the viewfinder in the down position: leave it free to move and it WILL fail (I'm amazed it hasn't done so already). Basically there's a poor design which causes the flexible circuit board to crack and once it goes it usually cannot be repaired.

A whole scrap camera is usually quite cheap on auction websites, but ask questions to ensure that the item is supplied to you before the previous owner has harvested all the all the useful bits, such as batteries and caps.

There is an ebay seller in the USA who sells an alternative eyecup which will just about fit, but it interferes with the viewfinder's ability to lay flat and also looks very amateurishly applied afterwards. The original item is by far the best.

Hope this helps, please take a moment to rate my answer.

Pictures taken are off center

I've seen this problem before and it's a serious fault: your camera's CCD will have slipped and it seems to be a fault with the design of the CCD mountings.

Contact Sony: they have been very good in the past at offering free out of warranty repairs to faulty cameras and this is definitely not something to attempt a DIY repair on.

View finder is not accurate

I have the same problem on my camera and was given an estimate of £180 to have it fixed. Did you get yours repaired? How much did it cost?

Viewfinder seems out of track.

The cylinder you are seeing is the lens. Your viewfinder probable needs to be replaced. There are several guide posts that are used to time the viewfinder with your zoom. This is a fairly complicated repair and probably a job for a camera repair tech.

Toggle between LCD & Viewfinder

You're not alone. It's an epidemic. With some people it lasted only about 8 flips between LCD and viewfinder. It's especialy a problem with the Z series. If you still can, send it for repair on warranty, otherwise you'll either have to live with it or find a place that can handle this repair. Good luck
