SOURCE: Where can I buy quilting rulers for a reasonable price. I need a 12 1/2 inch one

Fabric and quilting stores have them, even Walmart. However, you may do better price-wise shopping online.

The continuous binding pattern

Not sure what you are asking. Do you want to know how to cut your own binding? It is easiest to use a ruler and rotary cutter. Most often, the binding is cut on the bias. Bias binding wears better and has more flexibility when sewing it on.

There are some very handy methods to cut bias binding.

I have a quilt expression 2.0 is there somewhere I can shorten the shank or adjust the length of it to allow me to use the Westalee foot?

No you can't change the shank of your Pfaff Expression 2.0. However, looking at the Westalee site, it looks like the Medium Shank Ruler Foot should fit the Expression 2.0. See the paragraph between the Low Shank Ruler Foot and the Medium Shank Ruler Foot on their site: http://www.westalee.com.au/domestic.php . You can confirm this by e-mailing the Westalee staff at the e-mail link on the above page. I believe you should not use the high-shank templates with the medium foot.

I hope this helps.

Does a quarter inch quilting foot come with the machine, if so what does it look like?

If your machine is considered a "quilting" machine, it may have a 1/4" foot included. However, most machines do not include the 1/4" foot. A quarter inch foot looks a lot like a basic presser foot except the edge should be 1/4" away from the needle.

FWIW, you can achieve a 1/4" seam by placing a ruler under the presser foot and gently manually lowering the needle point until it rests on the ruler's 1/4" mark. The ruler's edge would then be exactly 1/4" away from the needle. You can place a piece of painter's tape (on the sewing surface) adjacent to the ruler edge and this would serve as your quarter inch guide.

Even if you decide to purchase a quarter inch foot, in my experience, none of them provide the "scant quarter inch" seam for piecing. Other than marking a scant quarter inch measurement on your sewing machine, achieving it will usually take some testing to determine what constitutes a scant quarter inch on your machine.

I have a sapphire 930 and would like to quilt using rulers but I need to know what shank size I have to get in order to use a ruler foot for my machine?

You can probably figure out which shank works on your machine:

Sewing Presser Feet

You'll just need to get a darning or free motion foot because they are shorter than regular feet which allows space to manipulate the fabric.

HOWEVER, some machines require different presser feet for use with rulers. The presser foot is actually deeper so it will not "jump" on top of the ruler while stitching. Some recommend Westalee rulers because they are thicker.
