NHT SubOne makes hum when the standby mode is activating and when playing music there are pops when the volume gets loud.

NHT SubOne makes a loud 60Hz hum (for about 4 seconds trailing off to quiet) when the standby mode is activating and when playing movies or music there are pops and crackles when the volume gets louder (maybe clipping). What do I need to fix? edit: I attached the driver (speaker) to another amp and it worked fine, so the problem is in the circuit cards somewhere. While amping, I checked the +13V on the high side of R33 (read +14.8V) and -13V on low side of R67 (read -14.5V).

The SubOne is a very complicated and dangerous amp to work on. High voltage is present even hours after being unplugged. I've been zapped more than once. If you still want to try to fix this, here are some things to check:

    1. Electrolytic capacitors in power supply, 1000uF, 470uF etc.
    2. Solder connections on DIN connector.
    3. Trimpots on +/- tracking voltage
    4. Output transistors and/or bad FET's in the tracking voltage convertor.

THIS AMP CAN KILL YOU!! BE SURE TO DISCHARGE THE LARGE POWER SUPPLY CAPACITORS BEFORE WORKING ON THIS!!

Hums are generally caused by electrolytic capacitors that have gone. You should replace any large ones in the power supply section of the unit.

Dear Mr Grubhead, did you write earlier that I should check the C7 and C15 caps? If yes, why did you remove this part of your answer? - Thanks,Matt

SOURCE: Vizio 42" LCD HDTV audio issues

First of all go into the audio menu settings and turn off the "surround" feature off and that should fix the voices/music differences. Does the craking sound appear while watching any sorce such as cable box,sat rcvr or DVD player? If not isolate it to that input and maybe that device is giving the problem.

SOURCE: Crackling Sound From Subwoofer

Check any wiring coming or going to the subwoofer. It sounds like it could be a loose connection.  Is there a LFE or bass boost knob on your subwoofer? Does turning that up/down cause the crackling (if it exists). If so, you could use some tuner cleaner to clean the contacts on the potentiometer knob.

If the crackling is on the subwoofer only, it might be damaged from bottoming out.  See if you can remove the baffle or grille covering the woofer and inspect for visual problems. You can also try to lighly push in and out on the subwoofer to hear if it makes any scraping sounds. If so, it is definitely damaged and the driver will have to be replaced.

SOURCE: Bose Sounddock - Speakers have a loud hiss at low song volume

Here is how I fixed the hissing noise in my Soundock;
--Pull the bottom plate off (It is attached by 4 screws)
--There is a green motherboard with 2 ribbonwires. .
--One of the ribbonwires (the one the mounts the ribbon vertically) had loosened up.
--Use a tweezers to pop it back into place and that noise will disappear.

This is a design flaw, as the action of inserting/removing your ipod, coupled with the action of setting your sound dock down will work this ribbon loose.

SOURCE: Frigidaire dishwasher model GLD2445RFCO is making noise

I have the same problem with my dishwasher. If you remove the kick plate while it is running, There is an electric motor underneath. If you push up and pull forward on the electric motor, the noise will stop. I used a block to prop it up and the noise stopped. You may want to try it.

NHT sa-2 amplifier won't go into standby mode after 10 Minutes of no signal

Does the NHT sa-2 have it's own pre-amp? Because I'm wondering if the power off only works when it's own pre-amp is used? So when your receiver is connected it's shut off.

You could try something connected to it's own pre-amp (if it has one) and see if it goes off when there's no signal from that.

Wine noise only, no volume control

C7 and C15 capacitors bad, on main amp board, 470uf/25vdc, in +13vdc power supply circuit. BE SURE TO DISCHARGE MAIN LARGE CAPACITORS ON POWER SUPPLY BOARD AS THEY RUN AT + AND - 90VDC (180VDC TOTAL) AND STAY CHARGED LONG AFTER UNIT IS UNPLUGED!!! Shock hazard and may damage unit beyond repair if not discharged while desoldering components. Use around a 1000 ohm, 5 watt resistor across capacitor leads, if possible check voltage with meter to be sure they are discharged.

My su-g95 technics Stereo integrated amplifier wont play any noise. and when i adjust the volume it makes a popping/crackling noise. i am 100% sure all the speakers were hooked up correctly.

Well it sounds like your amplifier IC's are working correctly since you are hearing that pop. I have the same amplifier and every 10db increment it pops. Have you tried every input? Possibly try starting at a low volume, plug an RCA plug into CD or any other input, and touch the center prong of the other end of the cable. You should get a 60hz hum if your in the USA, otherwise it will be 50-55hz. Regardless it should make noise.

Yamaha pt300. was working fine. Now only makes loud humming noise which doesn't repsond to change in volume. Monitor display shows keys register as being played, but no sound can be heard except loud...

Likely the power adapter has failed if it uses one. Try a new one first.

If half the rectifier blows out, a very impure DC voltage is applied which will be heard in the audio output.

JBL d110 /w no sound output

There is a standby indication that activates after 10-15 minutes without any input signal. I suspect that might be what the red light is telling you - no signal.

Loud hum from a loosened cable is normal as hum usually means there's an ungrounded connection somewhere acting as an antenna and the amp is doing its job to amplify what it thinks is a signal, in this case 60hz stray ac current is being sensed nearby. It's a good sign that you get hum from the sub because that means the amp is alive.

Avoid manipulating cable connections with the Sub or Receiver turned on as you could introduce a static spike that could harm any connected equipment.

Are you certain a bass signal is making it into the sub? The complexities of modern AV receivers vary in how you configure them to direct LFE to a sub. Bone up on that end of the chain.

Or, just hang a CD player on the Inputs of the sub and play something with a reassonable amount of Low Frequencies.

>>>> Be advised that this way of testing has NO VOLUME CONTROL because amps without volume controls always operate at maximum gain, relying on your external controls to attentuate it (hence, the loud hum from a loose cable); so choose a track that eases into the loud parts with some quiet parts up front and BE READY TO PAUSE THE PROGRAM AT ANY SIGNS OF STRESS. <<<<

A living sub will produce only muffled rumble in the absence of other speakers producing the higher frequencies which carry the intelligence of the signal. If that works, back to the receiver for settings. If not... sigh.

-----

For hum problems, even those you cause yourself:

Disconnect all inputs to see if that helps. If it goes away start with the signal cables and add in things until it comes back.

Sometimes the reversing the orientation of the AC plug can help with hum. Or it could be something like a loose or high resistance connection internal to the sub. Good luck.
