The speaker was dropped and something is now catching or rattling inside. I want to open it to see if I can repair it, and there are no visible screws or clips.

I have the opposite problem. I have opened my Dell DJ 30 and removed the battery. Where did you buy the battery?
To get access to the battery, you need to use a sharp knife (construction type). Cut the interface between the plastic bottom at the outside casing interface and remove the plastic in one piece. It is sort of glued to the bottom, but it comes off easy once the perimeter is free. Under the plastic cover, there are 4 philips head screws to remove a small metal covering plate. Once the plate is removed, you can see the connector for the battery. Remove the connector and then gently pull the battery out. There is nothing holding it in place except the friction of the other components inside. Mine came out easily. Now I need to buy a replacement battery.

Hey DM - Did you remove all 3 screws under the battery cover? The two little black ones near the bottom and the one up inside the battery compartment? Thanks.

this may help?
in between the bottom of the right speaker casing, theres two tones ( black and grey ). [personally i didnt care about the speakers seeing as how i got them for free.] i cut in between the two tones with a hand saw to make an opening. then used a flat head screwdriver to wedge it open which was pretty easy after an opening was created.
be wary of the volume knob cause in opening it, theres soldered wires underneath. good luck

Three screws to slide off the side panel are hidden under two of the feet, and the "void if removed" sticker.
